Set in a lovely quiet corner of Sultanahmet, the Tashkonak Hotel is nevertheless just a short walk to the Blue Mosque and the Hippodrome as well as other sights in the area. While the hotel is clean, the décor looks like it could use updating and it feels a little tired around the edges. The hotel has a nice garden surrounded by historical walls and the breakfast is served there all year round (but don’t worry, it’s covered in winter!) It also has a roof terrace with spectacular views of the Blue Mosque.Recommended for:

Tashkonak Hotel is located in a silent street, in a quaint Sultanahmet neighbourhood. The building is converted from an 19th century Ottoman house and the interior decoration also reflects this strand of taste. From the outside, the building looks like belonging to a large and famous Ottoman family that survived the century – and considering the hotel is family-owned, there is some truth in this!
Tashkonak is promising of much more than reflected by its exterior. The stone wall private garden, the terrace restaurant, splendid view and fabulous breakfasts distinguish the place.
On the down side, they do not sell alcohol.
The serenity of Tashkonak, along with its promise of nice tea-time or unforgettable dinners, can stray you away from your Sultanahmet adventures schedule. If you are looking for a boutique experience, this family-owned hotel is one of the best places to be.Recommended for:

I was enchanted with this hotel…cozy and elegant, with details that made it unique and welcoming. I felt like I was a guest in a fine, Victorian home, which is what they want the experience to be. It is built alongside the old city wall, so when you enjoy your afternoon tea on the tree-shaded garden patio, you do so alongside a piece of Istanbul history. The fabric lined walls took me back to another time, and although the room was a bit small, the small balcony overlooking the patio made up for it. The rooftop terrace not only serves up a Turkish buffet breakfast, but a fabulous view of the Marmara Sea as well. Unfortunately, there is no elevator in the hotel, so getting to breakfast, or even your room, may be a challenge for some.Recommended for:

This is one of my favorite hotels in all of Sultanahmet. The friendly and warm atmosphere of this hotel makes it stand out! Everything has been newly renovated, so all of the carpets, beds, and furniture are new. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff of this family-owned hotel is incredibly nice and loves chatting with their guests about their adventures that day. All of Tashkonak's guests had a smile on their face, and many were sitting in the quaint lobby enjoying cay. I absolutely loved the garden which is walled off by some an old city wall of some sort. It is calm and serene, and I was told the perfect place in the summer to relax. The rooftop terrace is equally lovely, with views of the Blue Mosque, Marmara Sea, and the Haghia Sophia. Breakfast is served daily on the terrace, and a guest told me it is one of the best hotel breakfasts they had in Turkey.

The Tash is a nice, small hotel in the Sultanahmet section of town. Away from the hustle and bustle, but still close enough to the action, it was a great choice. The breakfast (small continental) was on the rooftop, which provided a stunning view of the area. It was also open in the evenings and was a great place to go with a bottle of wine and a few friends. I would definitely stay here again. The rooms were what you would expect in a small older hotel, but clean and roomy.
