Ever since I was a kid, Tattered Cover has been my favorite bookstore of all time. Set in one of Denver's historic brick buildings, it's a book lover's paradise, housing a number of cozy corners and big comfy chairs in which to curl up and read. Homeless people sometimes find refuge here to use the clean bathrooms and quietly read the newspaper; but if anything, they only add to the cozy feel of the place. Indeed, the bookstore has this contagious atmosphere of tranquility that nothing seems to be able to break, right down to the friendly old ladies who work there and who could very well be your grandma's best friend.

Absolutely one of the best bookstores in the world. The Tattered Cover has all the books you want to read and then some. Looking for that new book that just came out? They got it. Looking for a classic first edition? They got it. Stop by and peruse their selection, just make sure you allow yourself plenty of time because it is very easy to spend hours here!

A really great independent bookstore. Large but still sort of cozy at the same time. Books are mostly new, but there are also used and bargain books, plus a cafe. A great place to browse!

If you like poking around bookstores, you'll love the downtown location of this indie shop. It's located in a renovated brick building with thousands of new and used books, comfy chairs and couches to lounge in (some beside a fireplace!), and WiFi in the cafe. Most weeks there are good literary events too.

A Denver institution and one of the country's largest independent bookstores, the Tattered Cover is a wonderful place to get lost and while away an afternoon. There are 2 locations. One is downtown - easily accesible via light rail. The other is on Colfax and Elizabeth in the old Lowenstein Theatre complex. Udi's restaurant is next door and is a great place to eat a tasty and healthy meal. Denver's Film Center is also within the complex and has a bar inside.
