While the cost of admission (1000 Lankan Rupees, nearly $10 USD) is, like most foreigner-price tickets in Sri Lanka, something of a ripoff, the Temple of the Tooth and the surrounding park, with its smaller temples and giant bodhi tree, makes a nice morning's exploration while in Kandy. The temple itself is fairly small, and you don't actually get to see the tooth (regarded by experts as probably not even human in any case), but the annex halls and top-floor museum (with various religious articles and offerings) provide some much-needed depth. It won't change your world to visit, but you'd be foolish to visit Kandy without taking it in.
