This mom-and-pop Japanese restaurant has been serving local families and South Kona road trippers for decades. It's straight-up Japanese country cooking, with heaping bowls of donburi, crispy tempura set meals and soothing green tea. The building itself is vintage Hawaii.

Our son introduced us to Teshima's for breakfast and we make frequent visits. Another place where the locals eat, you can get a Japanese breakfast here.

Classic homestyle Hawaiian-Japanese cooking. This is a rare find, a family running a restaurants with loving care for decades. Don't miss the bento dinner boxes and the real stand out has always been the light but tasty tempura. All of the tempura is amazing - I'm sure thanks to the lovely local produce nearby. However I love the katsu's and currys all of which are done with steamed rice, oshinko pickles and the other goodies. Great miso soup too. If you feel like you've stepped into a timewarp, you have and embrace it.
