A night at the Ahwahnee can run you around $500 a night, which for my budget would have to be a very special occasion. In comparison, a top Spanish Parador such as the Hostal de los Reyes Catolicos in Santiago de Compostela (where Gayle and I honeymooned) costs less than that (and includes breakfast).
However, if you happen to be in the Yosemite Valley, a stop at the Ahwahnee is a must. First of all, I love the architecture which uniquely blends an array of influences including Art Deco, Native American, Middle Eastern and Arts & Crafts Movement. Then there's the Ahwahnee Dining Room, which I've brought family for a special and visually stunning meal. Hanging out in the Lobby or enjoying a scenic drink at the Ahwahnee Bar is also fun. Last but not least, is visiting the Gift Shop.
The Ahwahnee Gift Shop is my go-to place for Yosemite souvenirs. The selection is unique and there's lots to choose from in this relatively small space for a thoughtful choice. The selection matches the hotel locale in terms of both style and price, but there's plenty to consider at whatever price point you're comfortable.
