Help Maureen Conn-Chopra
We're planning on an adventure packed trip to the amazon in June. We're looking for a safe, fun excursion into the wilderness. Sleeping on hammocks, catching - then eating piranha's. Checking out wildlife, maybe learning a bit survival in the jungle. Can you help? What city do we fly into, who has done this type of trip. Max 18 days.
Disclaimer: I haven't actually been to the Amazon... yet!
I've actually been looking into doing a similar sort of trip for a while now. It seems like the best place to fly into is Manaus, Brazil. It's one of the main home-bases for Amazonian trips.
As far as specific trip providers, I've been looking at Amazon Mystery Tours (ha, I know... they need to work on the name) at amazon-outdoor.com. It looks like they do a variety of different cafeteria-style trips (you can pick and choose what you want to do) for varying prices. I've heard good things about a few of their trips from various people and online resources. It doesn't seem like they provide many frills, but for someone looking for a jungle experience, this seems like a popular way to go.
Manaus, is the base city for all travels in amazonia...
lots of travel agencies...
Search the site of the Government, the tourism ministry, if the agency is
or else in ABAV (Brazilian Travel Agencies Association)
