A quieter boutique hotel within walking distance of Santa Monica, but not part of the built-up beach scene, the Ambrose has eco-friendly, Zen-minimalist rooms and plenty of extra bonuses that are convenient whether you're traveling for work or you're on vacation. Rates tend to be better-value than at the luxury and beachfront hotels, too.

The Ambrose is a fantastic green boutique hotel located in a quiet part of Santa Monica, just a 5 minute drive from the pier. Its Arts & Crafts and Asian inspired design makes for a cozy, zen-like atmosphere.
You really can't beat the value - we booked a double room for $150/night. Accommodations were really luxe! The rooms are nicely appointed with Aveda bath products and the most comfortable beds. I swear, they must have had 1000 Thread Count Egyptian Cotton Sheets on their beds because neither me or my BFF wanted to get up in the morning. They also provide a slew of complimentary amenities, such as: secured garage parking, wi-fi, use of a communal computer, organic continental breakfast provided by Urth Caffe and a gym. The hotel also provides a complimentary car service that will take you to Third Street Promenade and other places within a three mile radius.
Their concierge/front desk staff were all very friendly and helpful as well.
I'd definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone coming to visit for business or leisure.Recommended for:Green Travelers

A Dharmic oasis nestled on Palm lined streets, The Ambrose Hotel is more than your average little bit of SoCal nirvana. The nation’s first Silver LEED certified hotel, the holistic pillar of Santa Monica’s community, sits blithely in the center of it all: minutes from the Pacific Ocean and steps to bustling Wilshire Blvd. For all of the standard hospitality appointments we come to expect with a luxury boutique hotel, it is an unexpected complement that The Ambrose also marries ecological standards of excellence. As a LEED certified hotel, the structure alone meets some of the highest green standards. Zen-like refinement is what lies at the very foundation of the Ambrose and carries through in all of the treatments and considerations of how best to welcome you. All the way up to how the mini bar is stocked—there is no shortage of thoughtfulness and style.
The Ambrose cozies you into Santa Monica with an easy grace: providing complimentary on-site, underground parking (something you really appreciate in the Los Angeles car zoo), on-site hybrid car rental, complimentary bikes (that don’t look like rentals), complimentary organic breakfast provided by L.A.’s legendary Urth Caffé, capping it off with a very stylish London Taxi with driver to chauffeur you around Santa Monica. The rooms embrace you with organic and effortless style that refreshes your senses as much as it relaxes your New Yorker nerves. The Aveda bath products will compel you to consider a little toiletry theft. For the tech-minded, aside from the complimentary wifi, the ample and strategically placed outlets are quite simply astounding. Though you never ask the electrical outlet count or placement when you go to a hotel, it is often a matter of unplugging lamps or having to give pecking order deferment to your phone, mp3 player, laptop, camera battery and other assorted gizmos.
When you are ready to head out for an evening to sample the local cuisine du jour and soak in a little glamor, make sure to leave the driving to the chauffeur. I would recommend a couple glasses of champagne to accompany you in your London Taxi Limo. Heads will turn and doors will open to you as you step out and into any of the hip new Santa Monica haunts with your own vintage coach. We New Yorkers may not be locals everywhere, but it helps to know that you have it sorted out beyond expectation, with style and conscience.

Of the hotels I’ve stayed in on trips to Santa Monica, The Ambrose ranks as one of my favorites. I am extremely environmentally oriented, and this hotel holds environmental issues as a priority. Organic food, support of hybrid tech, recycling in every room…is it really that hard for other places to duplicate? The whole place reeks of cool in a good way, lots of Asian influence. As previous reviews said, you get serious bang for your buck. No reason not to stay at The Ambrose unless you feel a strong desire to be right by the beach (and, therefore, to drop more cash and be surrounded by tourists!)

The Ambrose is a quiet and intimate hotel located right on the outskirts of downtown Santa Monica so it's within walking distance of Santa Monica's main attractions, 3rd Street Promenade and maybe a bike ride distance from the beach and the pier. There are no convention halls so you don't get that huge hotel feel. The ambiance is more like a resort. There is no swimming pool so there a let down for the kids. They make up for it with a lot of but with a tiny Zen Garden outside thats perfect for catching up on some reading. The the gym looked clean well stocked with towels. The rooms are clean. The Ambrose is a nice get away when you want some peace and quiet in Santa Monica.

**THE IDEAL HOTEL IN RELAXING SANTA MONICA**
*Nice bed sheets.
*Good continental breakfast.
*Free lobby computer use
Anything wrong with this place?
*Somewhat dark rooms (we stayed in room #223)
Not really. The hotel was cute as a button and you could stay there for $159 a night with a sale.
It was not bright nor modern, but it was Pottery Barn cool.
An ideal boutique hotel in Santa Monica. Close enough to the freeways and LAX airport too.
