What an unusually beautiful hotel. The story behind is it was once a mansion that belonged to a powerful Santinguino back in the day, who would invite all the great thinkers of his time over for power lunches once a week in his palatial home up against San Cristobal Hill. Decades later, the place belongs to an Australian and an Englishman, who have clearly put an immense amount of money into renovating and beautifying it -and they've succeeded. You could get delightfully lost in the homes' spiral staircases and meandering hallways. Every room is gorgeous and individually decorated, the pool is luxurious and peaceful, the lounge is home to a grand piano, an old tower on the property has been converted into a bathroom/changing room for the pool. Nothing in this hotel feels generic. If you want to splurge on an opulent and unusual hotel experience in Santiago, this would be place to do it.

Testament to how much the Bellavista neighbourhood has changed in recent years - it used to be something of a magnet for tatty students and backpackers with downscale bars and eatieres to match. Occupying two 1920s Tudor-style mansions at the bottom of San Cristobal Hill, this 15-room hotel has been loved up by its Australian and English owners. The pool may be on the small side but it's a great place to retreat from the sometimes stifling heat of the city. Be warned, its proximity to the zoo can mean that not all of the odours wafting through the air are necessarily pleasant. Even if you're not staying here, the hotel piano bar can be a great place to meet friends and kick off the evening with a pisco sour.

Amazing, well executed, brilliant, creative are just few of the adjectives I would use to describe "The Aubrey". Upon entering you are greeted by a warm and professional Malaysian women that glows with satisfaction of someone who really loves her job. You move on to see the amazing design and execution of the patio (with a wall waterfall, nice touch), restaurant, lounge/bar and pool. As our receptionist said, the owners, Will and Mark, are the Ying and Yang of this hotel and in my eyes they are the balance of what is needed to design and run a living breathing functioning piece of art. The Aubrey is much more than a pillow to lay a weary head it is an experience that should be repeated regularly like yoga or tai chi. Well done Will and Mark!

What a beautiful boutique hotel in the barrio bella vista! We visited the Aubrey for drinks, met one of the owners Marc (so personable and fun!) who recommended to us the delicious empanaditas. So one drink became 2, then 3 and we tried the empanadas, congers, and scallops at the piano bar. The service here is absolutely awesome and the ambiance really relaxing. It was a perfect afternoon stop! (for drinks & snacks, and I imagine as accommodations too)
