When Connie recommends a place to me, I know I'm in for a treat. Booked dinner for R & my last night in Vegas, and finally an opportunity to dine without family. As others attest, the exterior of the Royal Resort, casino/hotel housing The Barrymore, provides no clue as to the lounge/restaurant's sumptuous swank coolness. Oddly, the hostess couldn't find my reservation, but they seated us immediately. Dino and Sammy would've been right at home here. I started with a Porn Star cocktail, a much more refined take on the sloe-gin-and-fizzes I downed in my 20s. Iceberg wedge was fresh and crisp, topped with Russian dressing and bacon. We shared the lobster mac and cheese, just because! We expected it to be a bit heavy, which it was, but you definitely saw and tasted lobster. Also just because, when R said he was leaning towards the filet mignon I told him to ask for the optional seared foie gras medallion - nothing like forbidden fruit - it was a very special treat. My entree was the beef bourguignon, so tender and flavorful. Even the variety of breads in the bread basket was amazingly tasty. Everything was plated beautifully; alas, the dining room was too dark to document these gastronomic delights and I wasn't about to turn on the flash and harsh the mood. Other patrons were all well-dressed and well-behaved, not your normal Vegas tourists. Our waitress was so sweet! When I told her I was absolutely too full to even think of dessert despite my birthday, she brought out a plate of four mini macarons with a candle, on the house. I'd definitely return. Their Happy Hour sounds fabulous and we'll stop in during our next visit. Thank you Connie!!!

Hidden gem is a phrase that gets overused in travel writing. But what else can you call this fabulously retro, Mad Men-esque chop house and cocktail lounge inside an aging hotel? Some of the sassy ex-showgirls who get their afternoon Bloody Marys here look like they might actually remember the 1960s. Exquisite cocktails make it worth a happy hour or late-night trip off the Strip if you like crazy, offbeat and/or vintage Vegas vibes.

LOVE The Barrymore!! What a hidden gem and one of the best meals I have ever had in Vegas! I've been to many upscale restaurants opened by celebrity chefs, but this honestly blows many of them away. Located inside the Royal Resort behind Encore, you'd never expect to find such a fabulous restaurant here. The interior is Mad Men-esque with chic retro decor and a really swanky ambiance.

Food and cocktails were phenomenal and the service was unpretentious and top notch. Everyone was super friendly and we even had the pleasure of meeting their amazing chef de cuisine Francisco Campa.

The seared foie gras was to die for! My friend and I shared one order, but considered ordering another because it was just that delicious. We also enjoyed their decadent lobster mac n cheese, and the fish and duck specials of the night were amazing. Be sure to ask for recommendations and hear about their specials. For cocktails, I really loved the Virginia Hill (Pisco, Lillet Blanc, peach syrup, fresh lemon juice, egg whites,
peach bitters, sage). You really can't go wrong with anything though.

Book a table here and thank me later!

A hidden gem in a horribly old hotel on the Strip. Excellent decor, service, and food. The bone-in ribeye (medium rare plus) was one of the best steaks I've ever had in my life. Absolutely incredible. The bacon bread that comes with the complementary bread basket was awesome. The seared foie gras wasn't seared enough, so it was missing that salt and pepper crust that really makes foie gras pop. The lobster mac and cheese was good, but not great. Stick with the bone-in ribeye and you can't do wrong.

This may not look like a great photo, but you should see the empty plate after. This Del Monico steak special was one of the best steaks I've had in a while, maybe even in top 5. It was flavored perfectly and just melted in my mouth. The rest of the dishes everyone else ordered we're awesome too.

The staff, too notch!! So friendly. Heck, the waiter had his own business card!!! Not only was he awesome, he gave us a free bday champagne and some dessert.

The atmosphere was great, dark and romantic. Movie reels on the ceiling. Wine choices were plentiful.

Definitely a must go back place. North end of strip, not walking distance really from anything. Inside the Royal Resort hotel.
