Located at the southern tip of the peninsula, the Battery is an easy walk from the Philip Porcher House. The Battery looks out over the Charleston Harbor, where the Ashley and Cooper Rivers meet. You can see Fort Sumter, where the first shots of the American Civil War were fired. Tours of the Fort are available from the dock near the Charleston Aquarium.

The Battery is a beautiful stretch of boardwalk along the bay that lets you glimpse bits of Charleston's Civil War history, including Fort Sumter and a few dockside monuments. What I like best about it, though, are all the mansions that line the Battery - it's so much fun to just walk along the water and pick out which beautiful house to live in.
