This place screams Retro 60s Mod as soon as you drive up and walk in the door, with one wall made completely of large-paneled, angled windows that look like they came out of the final mansion house in North by Northwest. While the guest rooms of the hotel are roomy and nice, it’s the lobby here that I like best. I felt like I was on set with Frankie and Annette – tastefully, without the Beach Boys music. From the geometric furniture and lights, to the beachy aquas, creams, and greens, the fun 60s feel is everywhere – and a reminder that the beach is only a short walk away. Also the halls are lined with the cutest close-up art photos of June-Cleaver-type dolls, wearing the latest 60s fashions in dress, hair and makeup – I was taking style tips!

This is a nice place to stay if you want to be in Manhattan Beach, but don’t mind not being closer to the ocean, if means saving money. It’s also a bit off the beaten path in terms of easy access to all the trendy eateries and nightlife scenes. That said, there is a “woodchip trail” right outside the hotel that’s only a mile from the pier.
I enjoy the stylish décor throughout the hotel. It definitely has a boutique feel, in spite of being close to a busy commute intersection. I particularly like the cute Chihuahua picture next to the pool and hot tub area. There’s a fridge in every room, free WiFi and a DVD library at the front desk. Also, overnight parking is only $10. I suggest getting a deluxe king room with courtyard views and paying the extra $20 for one with a balcony.
