This is quintessential Chicago jazz. It's dimly lit with small tables for an intimate evening listening to some great jazz performances. They've been in business for decades and are located in the South Loop, near great restaurants. Make a night of it with friends, you have to pay for admission to see a show and pay for drinks separately, so ...

This is truly the finest of dive bars. Filled with drifters, vagrants, service employees, and odd bachelorette parties. Billy Goat night bartender Nick Kapronos got me hooked on this dive bar gold mine.

This beautiful building, built in 1898, houses performance and studio spaces for writers, painters, musicians, dancers, and more. I love the old fashioned elevators (and the friendly elevator operators) and the grand staircases. Right on Michigan Avenue, this building is close to Grant Park, Millennium Park, the Art Institute, and Columbia College Chicago. Hang around here long enough and you're ...

We came here for Moulin Rouge by the @RWBallet and it was lovely! We had great seats but it looks like all the seats are good in this beautiful and historical theater. Check the site to see which incredible show is passing through. Bring cash for the bar at intermission.

A great place to stroll the paved walkways and see the Cloudveil (Bean) sculpture, and the startling and entertaining Crown Fountain with super-sized faces that spurt water. In winter there's ice skating, in summer watch kids, and adults play in the fountain. Or heck, pull off your shoes and jump in too!

A world-class aquarium miles and miles from any salty seas! It's all there: the Caribbean Reef, Jellyfish, octopi, and sea stars. YOu can also take in an aquatic show featuring dolphins and beluga whales. I gave it only 4 of 5 stars because it was so packed with visitors the day I went.

This should be on everyone's list of things to do in Chicago, and make sure you plan enough time to do it. You can easily be here all day and still not see everything. Parking could be a bit tricky, though, especially if there is a game going on at Soldier's Field next door.
