As I approached the Boxer Hotel, located on a less-than picturesque street around the corner from the TD Garden, I mentally prepared myself for musty fumes, faded old carpets and grumpy staff. But I couldn't have been more off. The lobby of the Boxer was clean, airy and modern, and the staff was wonderful. And maybe I’m kidding myself here, but it didn't seem to be the forced, fabricated, customer service kind of friendliness you get at a lot of hotels; the woman at the front desk really seemed genuinely and sincerely nice. And I loved the look and feel of the guestrooms. Each room has sort of a slate colored palette, but with subtle, bright colored accents that really add a bit of fun, whimsy and personality to the place. I LOVED the colorful, hand painted illustrations of typical Boston scenes on the walls. It’s a personal touch that could have gone horribly wrong, but that was in reality quite tastefully and skillfully executed. It’s not often that you come a across a hotel that is truly unique, but also comfortable, updated and equipped with all the amenities. Five stars!

Simply put, this hotel is phenomenal. So many aspects of it greatly surpassed my expectations. From the outside, it looks like an unassuming brick building that blends in with most of the office buildings nearby. But once you step inside, you are transported to a place that I would describe as half speak-easy, half Restoration Hardware catalog. It showcases its boutique flair through its intimate size and its painstaking attention to customer service. Each room even features awesome amenities like a Keurig coffee maker, luxurious Pharmacopia bath products, robes (which vary in thickness depending on the time of year), and even hand-drawn sketches on the walls that are unique in each guest room. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to break away from the mold of a typical chain hotel in favor of a more charming and personalized experience.
