If location is your top priority when picking your hotel, it's hard to beat The Brighton, which boasts one of the best views in the city from its perch on Cerro Concepcion. The rooms and facilities are a little rough around the edges, but it's definitely worth stopping by for a leisurely drink from the balcony cafe even if you don't stay a night.Recommended for:

Rarely have I given a 1-star review, but this place sorely deserves it. Depressingly, I've been here to eat three times – each time attracted to its magnificent views of the city at dusk (I've never stayed in the hotel, so I can't speak for that). Every time the overpriced drinks took forever to arrive, the food was mediocre, and the service was plain bad. The third time, we were in a hurry, so we asked for the check as we ordered. Forty-five minutes later, we were still sitting there, our drinks long gone, waiting for the waitress to appear (she'd been missing for at least 20 minutes). We finally added up the bill ourselves, left cash on the table, and started walking out – when, finally, she appeared, and chased after us, worried we'd dined and dashed. Maybe we should have. I'll definitely not be going back a fourth time.Recommended for:
