Live like a local and eat at "The Yolk". Insider tip: take in some rays as you sit up on the rooftop balcony and sip mimosas as you enjoy brunch. You're welcome. :)

    Eats: Border Check Omelette (chorizo)
    Drinks: Mimosas
Broken Yolk Cafe is known for its omelette challenge, but I'll remember it as a plain jane, over hyped breakfast spot. The two stars in my review represent the roof top patio and the mimosa's. Practically every table was full on a Saturday morning, so this place was happening. The chorizo omelette was however not happening. It was a bit undercooked which I felt later that day. The chorizo was probably the tastiest part of the omelette, but there was nothing else worth mentioning. I heard much about the hashbrowns, but those felt a bit undercooked as well with a runny bottom and a not so crunchy top. Broken Yolk Cafe is a great place to try atleast once, but after that you are pretty much over it.

It was heaven when I was a student at UCSD. Huge omelettes for a decent price to feed a student's belly. Now as a working professional, it's just a great place to split a meal with friends and catch up on the upper deck.

It's nothing spectacular, but it's good food, an upbeat atmosphere, and really good coffee for a plain old breakfast cafe. You can get lunch items as well, which makes it a perfect place any time from morning until mid-afternoon - which is when it closes anyway. It depends on which one you go to, but my favorite one in North County (Carlsbad) is frequented by local celebrities.

You will probably end up going here, and there is little I can do, except give you my plug. Broken Yolk is overrated. With so many unique and charming breakfast spots (The Mission, Cafe 976, The Menu, etc..), Broken Yolk is not worth the ridiculous long line. Yes, the food is good as most places can produce some good pancakes and eggs. It is nothing special. The *as scene on TV* lure for tourists may attract you as well, but at least give one of my other breakfast spots a go and you can decide to love or hate this review.

The omelets are definitely the thing to get here. But the Monte Cristo, French Toast, and Pancackes are also outstanding.

They have a food challenge that I've never see anyone finish ... and it's FREE if you eat it all within an hour.

A dozen-egg omelet filled with mushrooms, onions, American cheese and smothered with our chili and more cheese. On the other half of a 15-inch pizza pan is a generous pile of homefries and two biscuits!

Pretty decent breakfast for a reasonable price. Sit on the rooftop for fresh air and a nice view.
