My husband & I stayed at The Carolina Inn on New Years Eve for a romantic getaway. The hotel was absolutely beautiful. It felt like a place you could live and not just a cookie-cutter upscale hotel. However, it was very eloquent. As you walk around the hotel you see the history of this building b/c they have portraits of UNC alumni all over. You will also see tons of comfortable couches throughout the inn which makes it feel super, cozy! The regular rooms are small but are well-appointed. The bed is super comfortable! We did not have a chance to eat at the restaurant b/c it was booked but I guess that says a lot about the restaurant. We did order room service and it was fabulous & on-time! The gym was also really nice w/ elliptical machines, bikes, and treadmills & weights. If you are ever in Chapel Hill or the Raleigh area, this is a hotel I would definitely recommend!

Old southern charm, but modern. It's light and welcoming, nothing stuffy here. You will feel welcome. There's valet parking here as parking is limited. But because you're right in the center of everything you can walk everywhere. Service is superior here. Great place for celebrating special occasions small or large. The rooms are gorgeous. Beautiful layout with sophisticated decor. Just walking the hallways of the lobby area is an experience in itself.

The Carolina Inn is classic Chapel Hill. It’s owned by UNC, and it just oozes Tar Heel. It’s actually a UNC museum, with lots of history and memorabilia displayed throughout the common areas, guest rooms, and corridors. The lobby and guest rooms are beautiful, and this is best place in town for a wedding. Talk about Southern hospitality – the staff here is awesome. They also have some fun events for guests and non-guest alike – my favorite is Fridays on the Front Porch (basically live bluegrass, drinks, and apps on the front porch of the inn). You can walk everywhere in downtown Chapel Hill, which is a major plus since there’s limited parking downtown. The Carolina Inn is very traditional and doesn’t have a young or hip vibe by any means, so it totally depends on what you’re looking for. Also, there’s construction all over Chapel Hill, including right up next to the inn. That’s kind of a pain when you’re trying to navigate the streets, but it sounds like that might be wrapping up soon.
