While everything at The Charles is luxurious, it never feels overdone. The rooms are very spacious, and so are the public spaces, lobby, restaurant, bar, and spa. If there would not be so much to explore outside, I would have been perfectly fine to just stay in the hotel and enjoy the atmosphere and the amenities. The curved shape of the building embraces the Old Botanic Garden, an inviting green space in the heart of Munich. You are close to many famous sights and museums, including the art museums Alte Pinakothek, Neue Pinakothek and Pinakothek der Moderne, the new Egyptian museum, Karlsplatz and the shopping street “Fußgängerzone”. If you want to explore the nightlife, don’t forget to stop by at nearby Parkcafe.Recommended for:Luxury Travelers

The view from all the rooms is magnificent. But there is much more to look at at the Charles Hotel. True to the Rocco Forte Motto to use local material and cultural references, all artwork in the museum is made by Munich artists. The most striking ones are the over sized, colorful photographs by Hubertus von Hohenlohe. Even more impressive are the originals by Franz von Lenbach, a famous Munich painter who lived at the turn to the 19th century. His impressive villa, the Lenbachhaus, is now a historic sight and art museum, which hosts many paintings by Franz Marc, Wassily Kandinsky and other members of the famous expressionistic art group “Der Blaue Reiter”. While the Lenbachhaus is currently being renovated (it will reopen in May 2013), there are many more museums, galleries and art collections in the area. Even you don’t stay at The Charles Hotel, it is a great place to start your Munich art tour.
