How did they make an eggplant, vegetarian pizza taste like sausage? Magic. Crust wasn't extremely greasy. But seriously, that eggplant was magic.

Options to buy a slice, half ($10) or whole pizza ($20). Line moved fast, but seating is limited. So we ended up taking our pizza home to enjoy.

You can find out what their pizza of the day is on their website. Takes card, street parking.

The Cheese Board Pizza is a must for any visitors to the area. It is the best Pizza in the area plus they usually have a great Jazz band playing and folks are eating on outdoor tables and on the grassy knoll across the street. It is one of the places that makes Berkeley Berkeley.

Great Pizza (especially the crust) at a very good price. They do great things with vegetarian combinations, some of which don't always suit me. I usually get a half pie (light bake), take it home and wash it down with a nice beer or a glass of wine.

On the Bakery Side there's a robust selection of cheese and the best Corn Cherry Scones ever. Don't be intimidated by the crowds, as the line moves quickly. And viewing the Berkeley wildlife is a real bonus.

Cheeseboard is the legendary oft-mentioned bakery in Berkeley that serves up some pretty tasty pizza slices. While I wouldn't call it traditional or even NY-style, it's definitely gourmet and unique to its own. Cheeseboard also serves a variety of delicious breads and pastries. It's one of those places where you go and maybe wish you hadn't, because you'll be craving it for days on end.

Great for grown-ups! Kids may not love the pizza of the day (it's never just plain cheese), but they do like the live music during lunch.

How do you know you're in Berkley? Old men smoking bongs in the middle of the street? Check. Everybody is driving a prius? Check. People eating on the island dividers? Whoa!

So I came here with a friend from Berkley and she told me how this is the place that every Cal student loves. Apparently they have a unique special everyday and there is usually a line to order. The day we went, it was a corn fettuccine pizza for $20. The pizza was a little bit dry and you couldn't really taste the corn. In my opinion, the pizza just tasted like an ordinary cheese pizza to me (or something I would order from chuck e cheese). I do have to give this place props though, first off it's vegetarian and second off, the cooks are the owners and they really seem to enjoy serving the customers. A few draw backs is the tables are limited (I guess that's why everyone sits on the dividers XD), and the $10 card minimum.

Overall, I really wanted to enjoy the cheese board for it's friendly service but the pizza wasn't as great as I expected it to be. I guess asides from having the experience of eating on an island divider, there's nothing amazing about this place.

There's something about eating delicious vegan pizza on the crowded sidewalks outside of Cheeseboard on a sunny day. Nothing beats the feeling of being part of the eclectic beautiful culture that is Berkeley.

Don't forget to check http://cheeseboardcollective.coop to see which pizzas will be served each day of the week!

I remember when Cheeseboard Pizza was just a little a nook along the street front and sitting on the grassy middle divider on Shattuck was a necessity rather than a choice. I still love that they do great pizzas with awesome ingredients. It's one pizza a day and they do occasional live music.

Their pizza changes everyday, but in general they focus on the cheese with very little tomato sauce. The crust is a very crunchy thin crust. Might not be the best pizza that you'll ever have, but overall, their interpretation is worth lining up for.

One of the cornerstone's of Berkeley's Gourmet Ghetto. Come to Cheese Board Tues-Saturday for lunch and you'll typically find a line that's out the door. Despite this, you might have the pleasure of some live music and believe me, the wait is worth it. They have a pizza special each week! Combining unbelievable ingredients to wow with new and delicious flavors, all without losing their signature taste.

You can't miss this Berkeley landmark on Shattuck Avenue. There are almost always lines outside the door. The pizza line moves fast since they only serve a single type of pizza each day and most people only order a slice or two.

Next door you'll find the storefront for the bakery and cheese shop. The chocolate things are my favorite but all of their baked goods tend toward the delicious.

To get the full experience, come on a warm summer weekend for live music and eat in the fading sun on the grassy median as Berkeley traffic whizzes past.

Vegetarian amazingness. They have one flavor per day, which you can check on their website before you go so you know, and the pizzas just roll out because they just keep making 'em as the people keep coming. The line seems long but goes by in 5-10 minutes and you will always hear some form of live music emanating from the back wall. Epitome of eating in Berkeley.

Description

Though part of the collective that owns both the pizza place next door and this cheese shop, it shouldn't be confused with the pizza store of the same name. It is a fairly large space, but not a square inch of it is wasted in piling up the copious selection of sage Derbys, Gruyeres, Gjetosts, Cambozolas and Manchegos. The latest arrivals are noted up on a big blackboard, and the staff is knowledgeable to the point of didacticism. It offers many other specialty foods, too, and the bakery next door provides fresh, great baked goods and breads all the time. A must to check out in Berkeley.
