I saw some other reviews below that suggested this isn't a great place to stay, but I just thought this place had a lot of class. The staff was friendly and helpful, and I loved walking into a nicely adorned and well-marbled lobby with a feel of real luxury.
The rooms themselves aren't huge, and neither are amenities like the fitness center, but overall I found the hotel to be richly tailored from top to bottom. The location is also solid, situated within walking distance of some great nightlife and restaurants in Adams Morgan. I would also note the hotel boasts a partnership with the Phillips Collection, a great deal that offers visitors access to a modern art museum that isn't to be missed.
It may not be the complete package, as this is definitely an older hotel, but the Churchill is a solid pick.

The Churchill was probably once a nice, upscale hotel located in an upscale-ish neighborhood of DC. Our room made us feel like we were staying in a 60's-70's era upscale hotel. But the service is poor, and amenities are a slightly dumpy (the TV in our room was from the 80's), and the parking situation is horrendous. I drove around for at least 30 minutes in neighborhoods several blocks away, after rudely being told there was no place left to park at the hotel. Location wise it isn't a bad place to be - in the hip and trendy Adams Morgan neighborhood, and only a few blocks walk from the even hipper restaurants, clubs, and nightlife of U Street. If you're on a low budget The Churchill is a fine option. Just don't expect the normal level of service you would get from even a motel.
