For excellent, freshly-made burgers, come to the Counter! The best part: you get to make your own burgers in the style that you want! You can order burgers (hamburger, turkey, or veggie) or chicken breast in multiple sizes: 1/3, 2/3, or 1 lb! Depending on your hunger level, pick the size that your stomach can digest!
You can choose different types of cheese, including Swiss, Blue Cheese, Cheddar, Brie, etc. Add up to four toppings. including tomatos, eggs, dried cranberries, coleslaw, carrot strings, roasted pineapple, etc. Add your favorite sauce, including Terrikyaki, Apricot, Honey Mustard, etc. Finally, choose your bun, including regular, honey wheat, artisan, etc.
Other than the make-your-own burger, the Counter is famous for their sweet potato fries. Their regular fries are also tasty too, so I always order the "Fifty/Fifty" order of the sweet potato and regular fries for the best of both worlds. The fried pickle chips were weak, though. The batter is too thick. Not worth it, in my opinion. Stick with the sweet potato fries, if you want to try something else.
The Counter is a great place to come with groups. It's fun comparing who ordered what, and how large their burger gets. The burger is literally layered with all your preferred toppings, making it look taller and taller, based on what you ordered! The Counter is a cool place to dine at if you're looking for great-tasting burgers other than the atypical McDonald's, Burger King, or even In-N-Out. You'll find that once you order the sweet potato fries, there is no such thing as a single order ^)^

It is near impossible to dislike The Counter. You get to fully customize your burger to your liking - type of meat, patty thickness, choice of cheese, sauce, toppings and bread - the combination is endless. If the toppings and sauce didn’t go well together, you are the one responsible. My only complaint is that the custom burger is pretty darn huge even if you choose just a 1/3 lb patty. It is difficult to eat without cutting or deconstructing it. I wish there is an option to make a smaller version. I like having it on a salad bowl with buns on the side but that just didn’t feel like having a real burger.
They are usually pretty good at cooking the patty to the requested doneness. No dry overcooked burgers here! The meat is of fairly good quality. Omnivores could rejoice. The burgers are not cheap. I guess you can consider them ‘gourmet’ burgers.
Sweet potato fries and Parmesan fries appetizers are really just alright. I certainly had better ones elsewhere. Just skip those and save room for more meat.
The create your own drink is a brilliant idea. I had a lot of fun making my own martini. Wish they have more choices though.
Service is good. I love how efficient and upbeat the wait staff were. It is a fun get together place.

I love building my burger here, they have so many yummy options.. they serve the best sweet potato fries and I love ordering the trio (fries, sweet potato fries and onion rings)

I like the idea behind The Counter, but maybe I haven't quite figured out the best ingredient combo in building my burger. It's a decent burger though and always packed and good if you grab and outdoor seat to people watch. I like that they have a bar area for drinks.

Can't beat the counter burgers! the Santana Row location is not as good as some others and gets overly crowded on weekends, but still good.
Make sure you get the sweet potato fries with the horseradish mayo, unbeatable!Recommended for:Foodies

I am a huge fan of custom build anything - so I'm not quite sure why it's taken me so long to dine at The Counter since I practically live at Santana Row. The burgers here are delicious! I was extremely happy with my creation: 1/3 beef burger cooked medium with blue cheese, fried onion strings, sauteed mushrooms, mixed organic greens with chipotle aioli sauce. Added a side of "Fifty-fifty" parmesan cheese fries and sweet potato fries (with ranch instead of horseradish mayo), which is the most popular combo but is off the menu.
Our server was super friendly as was the manager who came around to check up on us.
While the burgers can get pretty pricey, especially if you get a lot of $1.00 add-ons, The Counter is a great casual spot on the Row to grab a bite.

If you're in the mood for a good burger, but you feel too high-class to dine at your local In-N-Out, I think The Counter is is a great option. I mean, what's not to like about constructing your own burger from the choice of bun to the number of toppings? In fact, if your burger isn't to your liking, then you're probably the one to blame for the ingredients that you selected, because you get exactly what you order.
The burger patty itself is your typical burger -- not amazing, but better than average. Choose your favorite ingredients & sauces, slap a fried egg on top and you're golden. Wash it down with an ice-cold beer and you've got yourself a great meal.
The best thing about this place, though, is their sweet potato fries. The order is a decently-large size and they're fried to the perfect amount of crispiness. I realize that most places serve sweet potato fries that are either way too deep-fried or way too soggy -- The Counter does it right.
Definitely a great place for lunch on a sunny day at Santana Row.

I would've given this place 3 stars, but I became a fan of the Yam fries. I just fell in love with the yam fries...YAM. Y-A-M. I know I've said it a few times, but damn...YAM!!! I've been here a couple of times before, but my first visit was with my two friends during our lunch hour. I haven't given the thought of eating here, but my friend suggested that I try it. I have to hug her for introducing me to the yam fries. Okay, I know I said it again. I didn't really enjoy my burger too much, even though it's the Build Your Own Burger. I don't care if it's 100% natural fresh ground angus beef, or turkey, or chicken...it's all about the fries. We ordered the "fifty-fifty" but from now on...I'm just ordering the yam fries. Don't go crazy on me if I've mentioned YAM FRIES repeatedly.
Yes you can put whatever you want in your burger with all the different mixin's (checklist that's given off a clipboard the minute you get seated at your table). I'll have to try it "salad" style. Sounds pretty interesting to eat as a salad instead of a burger. Oh well. That's for another updated review when I come back for the....YAM FRIES!

The Counter is the best place for a burger in south bay! We usually hang out at Santana Row on Thurs and this would be my choice, when I feel like a good juicy organic burger, where you can custom make your own.
