No knock on the food the students prepare. You are "in" the kitchen more or less (or outside) and it can be noisy. Many special events so check their web site. Also sporadically they have cooking classes down by the OxBow on weekends.

I am not a fan of Greystone. Certainly, the service was excellent, the ambiance was elegant and the view was spectacular. Unfortunately, the food was hit and miss. In my case, more misses than hits. I really want to love this place but I was underwhelmed by the food.

Came here with a large group so I got to try a variety of dishes. The presentation for the entrees were coarse. For most parts it was just a piece of meat served on top or underneath some vegetables. They could really do better than this. Some meat are cooked better than the others. The chicken has nice crispy skin and tender texture. The Berkshire pork chop was juicy. Fish dishes were not all that great. Both the salmon and the cod were a bit on the dry side. The sides on the entrees were unimaginative. The appetizers were relatively better. Watermelon and watecress salad has a great combination of flavors. Beef carpaccio was tasty and so was the PEI mussels.

The only dessert I would recommend is their chocolate lava cake dessert. The creme brulee and the dessert platter were both very standard fare.

Yes, the restaurant is excellent, but the gift store (and weekend demonstrations, at 10.30am and 1pm) are possibly even better. You can take tours of the gothic-looking building or dine on lunch or dinner throughout the year.

One of the best places to eat in all of Northern California! World famous! Go in style and take a limo there after a day of wine tasting!

I love the idea of giving students a live and practical platform to perfect their craft and the CIA at Greystone is such organization that offers its students a stage to perform in the form of a fully functioning restaurant with show kitchen and a fantastic wine list to match. I can't help but be impressed every time we come here!

Was closed when I got there. Not closed as in "closed for the day".. but "closed forever". Bummer. Would have like to have checked it out.

The Culinary Institute of America Greystone campus looks and feels like Hogwarts (from Harry Potter) for chefs. The castle-like structure is surrounded by sprawling green fields, vineyards, and an air of sheer excellence. Their campus restaurant is staffed by tomorrows chefs, boasts a beautiful patio, and is the perfect place for an unforgettable meal.

Well, they teach gourmet cooking, so as you'd expect, the food at their restaurant is fantastic. Service, however, is not always well-informed. We had a great time taking one of their classes/demonstrations, and will use what we learned in the kitchen!

Description

There's no spying at this CIA, unless you count behind-the-scenes cooking lessons. The Culinary Institute of America's west coast campus is located, unsurprisingly, in the northern end of the Napa Valley, between St. Helena and Calistoga. Housed in a century-old former winery, the restaurant arm of the school features dishes and desserts from up-and-coming chefs and pastry chefs as well as ... read more
long-term culinary experts. The CIA's Campus Store stocks an impressive supply of cookware and cookbooks for the serious cook.
