In New Zealand the dairy isn't the place that you milk the cows, it's what Kiwis call a convenience store. Many moons ago when Queenstown was a fledgling little town this luxury hotel started its life as the town dairy - thus The Dairy. My how times have changed; milk, bread and chocolate has been replaced with fine linen, luxury appointments and one of the best places to bed down in Queenstown. This small hotel boasts a refined pallet of tasteful decor in its small number of rooms. Guests love the honesty bar where they can pour themselves a drink of local wine and add a glass to their tab on the ledger. You can still have breakfast in the original dairy - they've turned that part of the building into the breakfast room. The location is just steps from the heart of town - as you'd expect from a former convenience store.

The Dairy is elegant yet comfortable, luxurious yet inviting – a true home away from home with warm, friendly staff who are always happy to help. It’s well positioned to be in the heart of the Queenstown action, just moments away from the gondola and downtown, yet private and secluded at the same time. The cooked breakfasts are scrumptious and the home baked afternoon tea is a lovely, unexpected touch – all served in the old corner store area that give’s this place it’s name. All rooms are spacious but if you can, upgrade to the premier room - it’s well worth it for it’s view out over the beautiful Remarkables mountain range, so called for their ability to run precisely north-south. Sitting in the outdoor courtyard beside it’s open fire, glass of local pinot noir in hand is a fine evening occupation – but if the weather doesn’t allow it, the large lounge or private library are equally as good!Recommended for:Luxury Travelers
