The Fairmont is one of the veterans of the Dallas luxury hotel scene, however they continue to keep themselves relevant in the competitive Downtown area. It’s nicknamed the Arts District Hotel and with good reason. The McKinney Avenue Trolley (M-Line) stops just outside of the property offering guests free rides throughout Uptown, hitting major landmarks like the Dallas Museum of Art, Nasher Sculpture Center, Crow Collection of Asian Art, Klyde Warren Park, and the West Village. The decor leans toward classic grandeur, but the Pyramid Restaurant--the signature dining experience--is a modern jewel in its own right. Another fabulous touch is the pool oasis. I peeked out from the 11th floor overlooking the space and had a perfect view of the garden (which supplies the kitchen at the Pyramid with fresh veggies) and the picture perfect pool. One of the more obvious decorative updates are on the doors to the guest rooms. The center panel replicates a haircalf hide, with a nailhead trim. Even the pop art on the walls of the guest room pay homage to the city. I can definitely appreciate the mashup of old school refinement and new school flair.

This Fairmont shows some signs of age and may need a little updating in terms of furnishings, but it is a class act. Even just the bathrooms in the lobby show attention to style and luxury, as do the ballrooms upstairs. I was here for a conference and this hotel did a lovely job of making sure even conference rooms were clean and set up beautifully.

The twin towers of this hotel dominate the block on which they sit. Every floor has an overhang, so the summer heat and light will be significantly reduced in every room. The bottom floor houses several restaurants, a Starbucks, and your typical assortment of hotel businesses. There is also a very high quality meeting room called the Venetian, and it is more suitable for award ceremonies. The second floor has many conference rooms mostly appropriate for business meetings.
Security is relatively tight, but they were very nice. I was approached by a man on my way out the door, and he was very friendly and non-aggressive. I got the feign they were aware of my presence even among the dozens of other people walking about. Plus, you cannot even get up to the floors with the guest rooms unless you have a key to one of the rooms. This is a relatively high-end hotel, so you will feel safe with your business associates or family members.

One of the original luxury Dallas hotel destinations, the Fairmont decor is rich and elegant and the amenities are superb, from WiFi throughout the hotel and in your room once you sign up for the complimentary President's Club, beds that have been enjoyed so much that to supply the demand, Fairmont has made them available for purchase online and Bose alarm clock with an Ipod dock. The Fairmont's Pyramid Restaurant has won awards and what's even cooler is that there's a 3,000 square foot rooftop terrace garden with fresh herbs and even local bees and you can have an intimate, romantic meal in the garden with the view of the city. My favorite thing about the Fairmont is that it's the only hotel in the heart of the Dallas Design District and they've really encompassed this, the Fairmont has an artist in residence program where a different artist applies and lives and works there for three months and at the end, they give one of their pieces to be permanently displayed in the hotel, the first fashion artist was their last artist in residence and you'll see my friend Isabel's specially designed coat on the concierges in the near future.
