Be sure to ask the concierge for a historical tour. Make reservations for the kitsy Tonga Room.

This is an elegant and romantic hotel in the Lower Nobb Hill neighborhood. It's not especially close to anything, though.

Closest high I've ever gotten to in my life! Back in August 2008, my cousin was getting married. She decided to have her wedding at the Fairmont Hotel and reserved rooms there for us relatives and guests to stay. As I entered the hotel, I was fascinated with the lobby, the mezzanine, the little restaurants, spa rooms and the little shops. Two days before the wedding, my mother and I got delicious hot stone massages at the spa, and we ate at the Fisherman's Wharf down the street from where we were and finished the dinner with a nightcap at the Tonga Room with awesome live music on the themed boat. The next night before the wedding, Mom and I came back from the city tour and ate at the Tonga Room and it was buffet night. Food was good and we caught up with the relatives. This place is well worth staying at if you can afford it while in SF.

Great place for meetings and to stay. Listen for Tony Bennett singing: I Left My Heart in San Francisco

The Fairmont is the most elegant and decadent hotel in San Francisco. Located atop Nob Hill the view encompasses the entire city all the way to the ocean. The penthouse has been home to Bing Crosby, Katherine Hepburn, and Barack Obama. I slept like a queen!

I thought this was a terrific value for what we paid. The hotel lobby is straight from a movie (in fact, a number of films were shot at the hotel - including one of my favorite Sean Connery scenes in The Rock). It's a glamorous place that has fantastic views of the bay. We could see the Golden Gate from our window (15th floor, tower). With all the hills, the walks from the hotel are not for the un-fit, but cabs are readily available. The staff was extra-friendly, and every recommendation the concierge made played out beautifully. I highly recommend!

Its one of the best hotels in SF. I have never stayed here, but been here many times. I have eaten here at their restaurant for a graduation dinner and it was excellent. It is a landmark of SF.

Gorgeous views. Grand and old world service. Probably one of my favorite hotels in the city. The Fairmont is located on the top of Nob hill (which we jokingly refer to as snob-hill), which is a beautiful neighborhood. The California line tram is right along the route. If you aren't physically fit, you are going to need the tram as it is a steep climb up from the downtown shopping area. For the physically fit, china town, russian hill and even fisherman's wharf are all within a 15-20 minute walk.

In the style of the "Grand Hotel" the Fairmont lives up to every expextation!!! All of the staff was excellent, anticipating our every need before we knew we needed it!! Food was 4 star...rooms were fabulous, with thick bath-robes & heated towel racks. Our room seemed as if we had our own room-service attendant. The Fairmont must be what Heaven will be like!!!!!

Gorgeous Hotel. It is such a treat to stay in these rooms. I felt transported into Victorian times with the high vaulted ceilings and the huge bed. The rooms here are practically the size of an SF apartment! At the rate I received for the night, you can't go wrong with a little bit of glitz and glamour at the Fairmont!

The Fairmont is a lovely historical hotel in San Francisco. As with many hotels in San Francisco, it is an older building, so expect some wear and tear typical of older hotels. However, they do a decent job of maintaining the building.

Loved the Christmas/Holiday decorations! It truly felt like the holidays in there with the life-size gingerbread house. Intercontinental had free cider and cookies for guests, though.

Dear God, if Heaven is anything like the Fairmont hotel, I shall change my ways for good and move toward the light.

In all seriousness, the Fairmont may be the most beautiful hotel I've ever been in. With a grand lobby and views from the top of Nob Hill, it's artistry simply cannot be beat. The Tonga Room, which I suspected would be a tacky rendition of the islands I grew up on, was actually stunningly beautiful. Even if you aren't staying here, pop in for a bit and experience the elegance.

Atop Nob Hill and across a gorgeous park from one of San Francisco's hidden treasures (Grace Cathedral), the Fairmont is in the perfect location to take advantage of Union Square, downtown, North Beach, Chinatown, incredible views and all of the best San Francisco has to offer (just be warned: the walk to pretty much anywhere is straight downhill, which means it's straight uphill on the way back).

The rooms range from small and comfortable to what appears to be palatial. The entrance is stunning, but the helpful concierge and fantastic service is even better. Also, the Fairmont is home to the oh-so-San-Francisco Tonga Room, an old-school tiki lounge where a band performs on a stage that extends into a pool in the Polynesian-themed lounge. Drinks are pricy, but half of the price is for the experience.

I absolutely love the Fairmont. I think it's definitely one of the most gorgeous hotels of San Francisco, situated in beautiful Pacific Heights.

I've been to a handful of events here, as well as had their high-tea service. Take note, it's the Fairmont, so they will charge whatever price tag they wish...however, you're definitely in for an elegant treat.

Awesome location! Gorgeous decor with an old school feel.

Front desk was fine and housekeeping was nice efficient. Fairmont delivered with a great location, nice views and gorgeous lobby. Anything else if you ask you shall receive.

Next time I go to this place, I'd like to stay at the Penthouse suite. However, I need to win the superlotto to afford it.

Old style class and charm all the way. I smell old money wafting throughout the Lobby and through the hallways ...

No better time to stay at the Fairmont Hotel than over the Holidays. Some friends and I stayed here for a Holiday Party mid December. From the moment you walk through the doors you are greeted with a humongous Christmas Tree all ablaze with glittering lights and right next to it is an equally large Gingerbread House. Christmas is here!

I stayed in the New Towers which means updated wall decor and furniture, upgraded bathrooms. We had a wonderful city view and more than enough room to host a pre-party for the crew.

As we move from pre-party to actual party: the hosted appetizers were delicious! If you didn't care about socializing, one could have made it a meal. Let me rephrase, one *girl* could have made it a meal, the men in the group needed more food. Oh well, such is ...

Post-party we moved to the Tonga Room (before it closes for good). Nothing disappoints here - as long as you're looking for cheesy. Which we were. Fun danceable music and plenty of alcohol for our large party.

All in all, a great Holiday evening by a wonderfully decorated & friendly Fairmont Hotel!

Stately bastion of Nob Hill, standing proud with good views next to another Grand Olde Dame - the Mark Hopkins. Service, like the decor, feels a little staid and formalized, and breakfast is too expensive - $40 for the buffet.
