I love the lobby of this hotel! It has a pretty, French country look with lots of light and windows overlooking a courtyard. I wouldn't mind having the upholstery on the furniture in my own home! On many evenings, there is a pianist in the lobby.
Deluxe rooms often have a courtyard views. One thing I learned: If there are rooms available and you ask for an upgrade when you arrive, you won't pay as much as if you booked the upgraded room in advance.Recommended for:

There are three hotels opposite each other on this corner. I think the Fairmont is the nicest looking. The location is not a bad walk to Dupont Circle, Georgetown or George Washington University Hospital.
If you pay extra for the Gold 9th floor, there is a special lounge, complimentary breakfast and evening hor d'oeuvres.
The front desk staff and the doormen were unfailingly friendly and polite.
