The Fringe is something to be experienced! There are sooooo many options of things to do that it can be very overwhelming but that also means that there's something for everyone. I only went to two events, a ukulele tutorial put on by a cabaret singer in conjunction with the local music supply store (so much fun!) and a juggling act inspired by Pina Bausch (very contemporary, very fun). There are some really great street performers as well in addition to world class acts doing operas, comedy, dance, theatre and just about anything else.

The Fringe Festival began in 1947 & is officially the world's largest arts festival. Every August for 4 weeks you can see any kind of comedy, music, theatre, art or dance you fancy. The streets come alive with people in costume & impromptu performers doing their thing! It's a great atmosphere at Festival time!

Edinburgh is packed during the Fringe Festival and there's way more than you could ever see; some of it's good and some of it's not so good. If you don't like the show, there are literally hundreds of other shows to go to.

What a trip! Free, fun, wild, crazy performers all over the street and in pubs, schools, and churches doing all sorts of random things. Street performers line the Royal Mile street and sidewalks, doing little acts, some not doing anything but is an act, and anything people can think of. A definite must-see if you are in Edinburgh in the summer.
