An outstanding example of indigenous Tamil architecture featuring six guest rooms set around an internal courtyard. Owned and managed by the Neemrana Group, which has made a name for itself by turning distinctive period properties into 'unhotel hotels', the setting is the entrance to Tranquebar, a village which attracted Danish pepper traders in the 17th Century. Each of the rooms features antique furniture, carefully chosen to reflect colonial influences. How they keep the wood floors throughout looking so pristine is beyond me. The pool also offers respite from the sometimes stifling heat. Recommended for one or two night's stay as part of a southern India itinerary.
