The Good Hotel is a truly San Franciscan hotel: fun staff, a vibrant interior, photobooth photos of guests posted in the lobby and a wine lounge on premises. The hotel is also sister to the Best Western across the street, so the fitness facilities there are usable without a fee for guests. There’s also a plan to provide delivery orders from Custom Burger, a great restaurant where you can customize your burger with a number of wild ingredients.
Rooms also exude San Franciscan spirit. Above the beds are logos and photos taken from a number of local institutions. The décor throughout the property is chic and modern, and the addition of positive messages—“Be Good”—is a nice reminder to, well, be good.
The only downside is the neighborhood. It’s not particularly dangerous, but it’s a bit sketchy. It has definitely made strides in past year, with a number of the city’s best eateries opening on the wacky Sixth Street block. It’s all easy to avoid, however, and the Good Hotel should definitely be considered.

Located in the ever-improving SOMA district and the up-and-coming 6th/7th Street Mid-Market area, the Good Hotel is a diamond in the rough. Luckily, it’s not as rough as it once was. It’s a short walk to the Civic Center BART/MUNI station, and about a 10 minute walk to Downtown San Francisco.
The Good Hotel is one of the quirky and cuter eco-friendly hotels in the city, and by that definition is already so San Francisco. The artwork in the guestroom is vibrant, hip, and focuses on landmarks, neighborhoods, or other features that are distinctly San Franciscan. They offer free parking if you have a hybrid vehicle, $25 for regular vehicles, free Wi-Fi, free loaner bicycles, are pet-friendly, AND they have a photobooth in the lobby. They also share a fitness center and outdoor heated pool across the street with the Best Western. Free coffee and tea is also available in the lobby as well as a giant chalk message board.

The décor in the guestrooms are bright, clean, fun, modern, and functional. Their friendly staff members represent their theme of being good and doing good, and try to inspire their guests to do the same, promoting ‘renew, reuse, recycle, and relax.’ It oozes San Francisco and travelers who want to experience a fun, affordable, and chic San Francisco will definitely find some inspiration at the Good Hotel.

We like the Good Hotel in our San Francisco budget category since it's not only cheap and in downtown San Francisco, it also has a very San Franciscan commitment to being, well... good. Is it fancy? Heavens, no. Might you see a few prostitutes or meth addicts whilst entering or exiting? Oh, yes.

But it's ridiculously central, half the cost of other central hotels, has free bicycles for guests, and offers loads of other eco-friendly touches. The hip hotel also comes with its own photo booth in the lobby.

Not in the safest of areas at night but affordable, modern and cute!!

Close to a Bart station as well as streets with a lot of foot traffic.

Great hotel. Good price. Neat and beautiful rooms. WiFi.
Location is ok, but some homeless people and weed sellers in the streets. Nothing too scary though.

There’s lots of good going on at the Good Hotel. It’s extremely well priced, very hip, and super eco-conscious. In fact, being green is kinda their thing. At the Good Hotel, the bed frames are made out of reclaimed wood, the wallpaper is recycled, and the blankets are made from recycled soda bottles (far more comfortable than they sound, I swear). Plus, they can hook you up with volunteer opportunities while you’re in town and lend you a bike, just in case you don’t feel like hoofing it. And the best part is, it’s actually super cool and sleek inside, and not the hippie hostel that it sounds like.

Why is it called the "The Good Hotel"? Because they want to be a hotel that inspires their guests do good for the planet! Have a hybrid? Parking is free for you. Want to explore the city in a environmentally sound manner? Free loaner bikes are available. Think recycling is impossible? The whole hotel utilizes reclaimed and recycled material to create a design that is both modern and trendy.

From the oversized chalkboard wall where guests write messages and doodle, to the collage of cute photo-booth snapshots, everything about The Good Hotel screams hip. It was a cool mix of new and old, with bright, modern art displayed on the walls as music from the 60's plays in the background. Colorful cuckoo clocks line the wall behind the front desk displaying times from seldom-visited parts of the world.

Their rooms are arranged motel-style outside the main building. I say motel-style, but the decor is anything but. The doors are bright green and yellow, and the room numbers are displayed on placards fashioned after those "Hello, My Name is _____" name tags.

The rooms themselves were a little cramped (think motel sized!) but all really well-decorated. The bed frames are made of reclaimed wood, giving them a sort of "summer camp" look. The walls are brightly colored and a cheery "be good" phrase is emblazoned across them. The bathrooms are pretty small as well, with just enough space to fit in a toilet and shower.

However, one element of concern is its location. While I was walking to the hotel and as I was standing in the lobby, I noticed a lot of homeless and unsavory people walking around. I definitely wouldn't try to draw attention to myself if I were walking back to the hotel at night.

Side note: For those who really can't get a break from working out, guests of The Good Hotel can use the fitness center and pool across the street at the Best Western Americania.
