Located on SW 11th Street, about four blocks from the main thoroughfare of SW Broadway, the Governor hotel is in easy reach of all that Portland has to offer.
This is an old style hotel (renovated in 1992) that has successfully combined expectations of modern luxury and amenities with the exceptional decor and taste befitting the age and style of an early 20th Century building. It has an impressive frontage, but on entry to the lobby you can see this is indeed an elegant place to stay.
Off the lobby on the entrance side is a Starbucks; on the 10th Avenue side is the deservedly renowned Jake's Restaurant. Between the lobby and Jakes is a comfortable and atmospheric Victorian-style sitting room lined with murals of early Oregon history.
Proceeding from the lobby, you won't be disappointed with the rooms that are light, simple with rich dark wood, with a warm ambience and a great bed! I'm always very picky (having heard the horror stories about hotel hygiene) about the cleanliness of the room but especially the bathroom. The room (Deluxe King) I was in was very clean with high standards.
This is a great hotel to relax in with a fitness center, a place to meet for pleasure or business and have a meal at Jake's Grill.

I feel like this hotel is a secret, the way it’s outside masquerades as just another beautiful building. Once inside I saw the grand foyer with a ceiling ornate and gold enough to have been made for a King, but the lobby was warm and inviting with chairs around a fireplace and books- like Grandpa would be down in a second to beat you in chess. The staff were extremely helpful and smiley, I felt like I was doing them a favor by being there. Being one of the first hotels in Portland, it has a lot of history; evidenced in their unique rooms and elevators. Good food is not a problem; the hotel’s restaurant is hailed as the best seafood restaurant in Portland and they offer Starbucks room service. The hotel’s Downtown location is perfect for taking quick breaks between exploring, where the only trial is to not to get too comfy until you’re in for the night.Recommended for:History Buffs

One of Portland’s oldest and best-known hotels, the Governor is smack in the middle of downtown (it doesn’t get more central than this). They have 24-hour room service, free Wi-Fi, plenty of banquet and meeting space. There’s also a Starbucks onsite, as well as one of Portland’s best-known restaurants: Jake’s Grill. This historic hotel has large, cheery rooms done up in muted tones and rich woods, and some suites have balconies and fireplaces. The rooms here are incredibly quiet considering the hotel’s busy downtown location. What’s even more incredible is that unlike most hotels these days, the windows in the rooms at the Governor actually open! The bathrooms vary in size quite a bit so if you need a bigger bathroom make sure to mention this at the time of reservations.
