This hotel has a ton of character and history as it was built in 1929. The building was originally apartment units, but for the 1984 Olympics it was converted into a hotel. There is a gym that overlooks the lobby and a bar that doubles as a breakfast nook in the morning. The only downside is its location-- not the safest part of town. However, you are just blocks form the cool part of Downtown.Recommended for:History Buffs

This is a great hidden gem hotel in the area between downtown Los Angeles and MacArthur Park. The building itself dates back to 1926, and here’s a fun fact: it served as the site of the first after party for the Oscars in 1929. The lobby is pretty large, with lots of seating areas and even a piano. WiFi is free throughout the property. There’s a restaurant that serves breakfast, but it’s not included in the price. You can tell that they’ve invested some money in keeping the rooms updated. They are clean and well maintained. All of the rooms have a private bathroom, and there’s a fitness center on site. The downside of the location is that there’s not much to do in the immediate neighborhood. Basically, if you want to get into downtown or Hollywood, you’ll need to hop on public transportation, drive yourself, or take a cab.
