“Hidden jewel” is probably the best term to describe the Inn at St. Botolph. It’s hidden because it sits in the shadow of the Prudential Center, but is tucked away in a quiet residential area. It’s location makes it a great spot for a couple to sneak away for a weekend while still being in the city. It’s a jewel because it has everything you’d want in a bed and breakfast – which it is, only on a larger scale. The rooms are more than adequately sized and have four-post beds, something I’ve always liked. I say it’s more of a B&B because the hotel has free continental breakfast in the morning, but doesn’t offer room service. The thing I found most interesting was the kitchen area in each room, not exactly something I was expecting, but I liked it nonetheless. The only thing I didn’t like was the keyless access system, because I can image it causing problems for guests who just spent a night on the town.

This place is sort of halfway between an inn and a private suite complex. There are no keycards: instead every door is protected by a keypad, and every guest is given a room number. Your suite is more like a small condo complete with a fully-stocked kitchen. As a result there’s a minimum in terms of services offered, though the house does provide a basic complimentary breakfast, daily housekeeping and laundry. You’re going to have to adjust your thinking away from “hotel”, even though they use that word in the promo material: there’s no real lobby to speak of, no restaurant or bar, and only a small gym on the basement level. There is a lounge and a kind of “front desk,” and the staff there is polite, though again minimal. If you’re expecting all that, you’ll find the location great for those planning on spending a lot of time in and wanting a more discrete, independent experience.
