We love the Inn at Union Square for not only its proximity to dozens of family-friendly attractions (it is *on* a cable car line), but for its super-duper-extra-cool Kids Suite. Packed with a trundle bed and computer and games and books for all ages from toddlers to teens, the suite is decorated in primary colors and kid-friendly decor.Recommended for:Family Travelers

Oh man, do I love a good boutique hotel, and everything about the Inn at Union Square, from the signs numbering the floors to the front desk lady’s hair, exudes period chic. Greeted by a huge smile and coifed hair, we walked into red hues and vintage decor. The stairway was just the right kind of “old.” The elevator, unfortunately, was not.
Finally in and up, we walked through narrow hallways (claustrophobics, take heed) and opened the guestroom door adorned with a golden lion’s head knocker. Knock, knock! The room was warm, very elegant and adequately sized. It wasn’t the biggest, but it was lovely. Artwork within the rooms are individually labeled, so you know exactly whose work you’re admiring.
There’s no gym, no pool and no restaurant, but the Inn at Union Square has the best amenity of all: timeless charm.Recommended for:Business Travelers

Walking into The Inn at Union Square, I felt like I was transported back to the 50's. The music playing in the background, the traditional colors, the red leather front desk...it all contributed to a retro feel for this boutique hotel. Disclaimer: I have never been in the 50's, this is a 90's baby belief on what the 50's looked like.
The hallways were so narrow in this hotel, and the elevators were super slow, but I guess it all added to the charm of this hotel. Each floor had a cute little parlor, where guests can sit and enjoy wine tastings in the evening and hot cookies late at night. All the doors had these cool lion's head knockers on them, which I have never seen before at other hotels.
The rooms themselves were well-kept, with really nice artwork on the walls and plenty of space to relax. However, the room I first checked out had all the windows open and a faint smell of cigarettes in the air, probably from the previous guest.
