The Iveagh Gardens

Clonmel Street, Dublin 2.

A hidden gem. Located near to Stephen's green, it is almost a secret park and one which not many seem to know about. A lovely spot to sit a read your book, or to bring your lunch too. Less busy than Stephen's green, but still centrally located. Its a lovely, quiet little place to stop by.

My mother and I spent two weeks in Ireland for her 70th birthday. We selected this as a classic hotel and while we were not dismayed, we subsequently decided we would have been better off with a familiar name. The rooms were a bit dingy and the parking was difficult and it didn't quite live up to the billing.

This is a beautiful hotel filled with atmosphere and history. It is, just across from Stephens Green Park and near to all the shops and restaurants. The reception and lobby is beautifully decorated and very elegant although the reception desk is not visible straight away when you go in, but a staff member or the very friendly doorman will come ...

The Merrion is an extraordinary place. From the street it looks like all the other Georgian buildings in the row. I was expecting some kind of glittering, dowdy restoration – instead, I found a satisfying mix of old and new. Throughout the lobby and public lounges you can see the age in the floors: uneven painted floorboards, faded carpets, select ...

The Grand Canal Hotel aims for a simple standard and hits the mark. The hotel itself has little to distinguish it from any other—the lounge, dining room and bedrooms are pleasant, modest, and clean. There is, however, a very good pub that does a lunchtime carvery and light meals. They advertise a lot of deals in the lobby for tickets ...

This is a beautiful place to stay – both of the hotel’s two buildings and the outdoor patio area are really nicely presented in a very classy, understated way. If you have an interest in modern design and/or architecture you will definitely enjoy staying here, both for its current presentation and for its history. Number 31 is a boutique-style hotel ...

The hotel’s restaurant, The Exchange, lives in the 1930s and is up to its ears in art deco. I caught only a hint of this when I entered the hotel, but I realized afterward that it had colored my impression of the whole place. The building’s previous incarnation was as a bank headquarters (a local branch now occupies a small ...

The bar in Buswells Hotel is meant to be one of the favorite haunts of the ministers and TDs from the nearby government buildings – I didn’t see anyone I recognized while I was there, but there were many people in dark suits talking in low voices, so I will assume that they were conducting vital backroom deals. The hotel, ...

Wynns is an old hotel that has worn extremely well with age. Many of the original fittings—the stained glass windows, the ancient elevator, the reception desk, the key cabinet—have stayed in place and successfully resisted the call to modernize. Part of that, now, is that the building is protected, which means the owners are legally unable to change much. The ...

I have one petty complaint about the Dylan that probably says more about me than the hotel: I couldn’t find the entrance. They’ve joined an old building—a former nurses’ home—with a larger new one, and the doors to both were open and in use. After some confusion, I made my way inside to find a fabulously-designed space that contrasted sharply ...

This hostel gets 5 stars in Dublin for its location. Really, you couldn't ask for a better home base for your raucous Temple-bar adventures. Aside from the location, it has all the things you'd expect from a good hostel: clean, full of young people (though the age range is certainly much wider than 16-26), full of activity and ready to ...
