i attended a wedding here and it's a really nice resort away from the busy waikiki area. an attraction there is the dolphins in their pool, you can swim with the dolphins (for a fee). it's beautiful grounds faces southeast side of the island, with views of koko head in the background.
the lobby is grand and beautiful. orchids and exotic flowers decorate the staircase leading downstairs to the ballrooms. the buffet i had at the wedding was magnificent, one of the best yet. this is a great location for someone who wants a relaxing and secluded resort stay, but still within close distance to waikiki and downtown honolulu for activities, restaurants, and tours.

The Kahala is one of Hawaii’s legendary hotels, built in the early 1960s to welcome everyone from presidents to celebrities—and it still does. The hotel is exquisitely, femininely opulent, with a beachfront location in one of Oahu’s most exclusive neighborhoods. The location really does make it feel like a sanctuary—nowhere else on Oahu will you find a luxury hotel away from Waikiki yet close enough to have all the advantages of the city. You can’t go to The Kahala without visiting the resident dolphins in the lagoon fronting the low-rise rooms. Another major draw is the (very expensive—but worth it) Hoku’s restaurant—make a reservation early enough to enjoy the sunset. The hotel also has an elegant full spa. If you want mind-blowing, straight-on ocean views, book a south-facing room in the tower—the highest floor you can get.

The Kahala is a grand old hotel with it's own private beach on the other side of Diamond Head, so it is not on Waikiki Beach. But this is the rich side of the island, the Kahala side, with multi-million dollar homes. The hotel is full service, and prior to be the Kahala, may years (decades) ago it was the Kahala HIlton, and later the Mandarin Oriental. For long time it had its own seawater pond where Dolphins were kept and shown, run by Dolphin Quest, and you could swim and hold the dolphins. The pool complex is on the beach and you can eat food there, get a Cabana, or easily watch the kids play in the waters.

Stunning! The hotel is so perfect, I almost don't know what else to say.
The rooms are modern and chic, so comfortable you feel at home, immediately. It is not in the heart of Waikiki, about five minutes by hotel shuttle or car. You don't ever feel like you are in a city but the availability to go out and be so close is appealing. The two best things about this amazing hotel? Most of the employees have been with the property for years, impeccable service. The other reason is the Dolphin Experience, right on property. They even have Dolphin Experience Rooms overlooking the pools. Perfect for families, romance or just a beautiful getaway.

I had the pleasure of staying here the night before a wedding on the premises. While the rooms are not as opulent as one would imagine a $700+/night hotel would be, our room was tastefully decorated (hard to find in Hawaii!) and relaxing. The bathroom is spacious, with two vanities and two closets on either end, a tub, a shower, and a toilet with its own tiny "room." Our room had a large patio overlooking the golf course, which isn't the best of views, but it was nice to have the option of fresh air. Whenever we called for anything, it came almost instantly. Everyone we dealt with was pleasant!
The grounds are gorgeous, and you can see why celebrities can stay here for weeks at a time. (At the time I visited, Kanye West had just checked out after a month-long stay.) There is a large, private beach, a pool, a sting ray pond and a dolphin lagoon. I haven't seen anything like it. The lobby is quite grand, and since I visited in December, there was a gigantic Christmas tree in the center, with a more playful one just a few feet away with chairs positioned for children to have their picture taken. The hallways and lower lobby also had several Christmas trees, and the stairways were opulently decorated, too.
As for the wedding, the coordinator assigned to the bride seemed to have everything under control and the event went smoothly. The four-course meal prepared by the hotel was the best wedding food I've ever had, by a mile. Apparently the head chef wasn't pleased with one of the courses and apologized to the bride after the event, but I couldn't even tell that anything was wrong.
Overall, this place will set you back a pretty penny, but you can tell that a lot of work goes into maintaining the facilities and training only the best of staffs.

i didn't stay here - i came here for my friend's wedding and this hotel is absolutely amazing. i think kanye and kim were staying there when we were there. there are private beaches along the hotel and beautiful tiny islands bobbing on the water. the pool area has sea turtles, dolphins just swimming about. there is a man made waterfall, and restaurants and banquet rooms. What a divine hotel!
