The Langham hotel is pretty in pink--from the tidy bows in the receptionists' hair to the pink iron provided in the large guest room closet to the pink stationary helpfully placed on the bed each night listing the next day’s weather. I couldn't agree more that this is my favorite 5-star hotel in the city. For one thing, the service was top-notch. Every member of the staff I passed stopped to smile and say hello. When I initially checked in, there was a problem with the room key system, but it was truly no bother because the receptionist was so accommodating and quickly found someone to take me up to the room and promised the keys would be delivered to me shortly (but then resolved the problem before I even made it upstairs). The views of the city and the Yarra River are spectacular and are best taken in from the rooftop sun deck or the indoor/outdoor pool.
If you can pry yourself away from the luxurious hotel amenities, I'd highly recommend exploring the surrounding South Bank area. There are bars and restaurants galore and you can get a true taste of what this city is all about with the exciting mixture of musicians, bicyclists and businessmen.Recommended for:

The Langham Hotel in South Bank is as perfectly situated as one can imagine: only a couple of blocks from Flinders Street station, but a couple of blocks south, which means you get a great view of the station’s 13 platforms, the Yarra River, and of the south bank area while being located a stone’s throw from the Melbourne Arts Centre.
The hotel is striking, and one of the best known in the city. From the fountain by the escalators to the lobby to the roof top pool and spa, the hotel gives an incessant, 360 degree view of luxury. The staff are as nice as you’d expect in such a prestigious establishment, but what sticks out in my mind is the idea that the Langham is a well-kept secret, that its decadence and beauty were just for me. Clearly that’s not true, but it’s a result of the intensely personal experience that a stay at the Langham gives. The Club Lounge gives more great views and great service, with free flowing drinks and hors d’oeuvres with a terrific if not especially expansive breakfast buffet, but the gluten free muffins and the chocolate smoothies were a lovely touch. The Langham is gorgeous in its every atom.Recommended for:

My favourite Melbourne five-star.
This hotel is discreet luxury all the way. Beautiful surrounds and situated right on the Yarra River.
The location is perfect, a short walk to the CBD and right near the arts precinct, casino and Southbank entertainment. Being not right in the CBD you feel a little mental break from the buzz of the city that you don't get at perhaps the Sofitel or Grand Hyatt, and the Park Hyatt is not as close to attractions like what Southbank can offer.
The restaurant is also great, unlike many hotel restaurants. The Melba has an amazing buffet with stunning views.Recommended for:
