Definitely off the beaten path. This museum is not huge. However, it is very informative and educational. Additionally, it is right next to Union Station another worthwhile tourist destination.

At the Visitors Center, catch a few short films about Congress, visit the Exhibition Hall with an audio tour on your cell phone, and sign up for a tour of the Capitol building. If you request visitors passes from the offices of a Representative or Senator, it's fascinating to watch debate in the House or Senate chambers.

A favorite while in DC. Summer of 2014 a new 3D movie on D-Day and WWII opened and it is captivating and well worth the add on cost. Museum itself is free. Planes, from the Wright Brothers to Columbia Space capsule, are hanging the the ceilings and scattered throughout the large space. Popular, crowded in the summer but always worth ...

Does everyone have a kid who wants to be an astronaut? This is where dreams are made. The Spirit of St. Louis, space capsules, flight simulators … It's no wonder this is a first stop for visitors from all over the world. For the absolutely exhausted, I'd try chilling with an IMAX movie or a planetarium show.

I love the “family guides” that describe the art in various galleries, and then provide questions and little projects for those aged 6 and up. There is also an audio tour designed for children. Edgar Degas' Little Dancer Aged Fourteen is a favorite with young ballerinas.

Definitely really great for kids. My fourteen year old sister really wanted to try it and she really loved the experience! There are a lot of activities that give you the experience of what it's like to be a spy.

So worth the price! This museum has some of the most engaging exhibits I have ever seen. I really like how they constantly change their exhibits. There are usually specials like buy one adult ticket and up to 10 children get in free, so take advantage of that!

I'm a history buff, so I love this historic theatre. This is where Lincoln was shot while watching a play. Very important piece of US history. The theatre is beautiful.

OK, this is not my favorite museum. Best to go when they are having a special demonstration. But I do like the food! While they have your standard cafeteria fare, they also feature foods eaten by native peoples of this Hemisphere. Get your children to try the fry bread!

The Village in the heart of the City. Visit DC from a warm and friendly neighborhood of small shops, parks and restaurants. Eastern Market food stalls during the week and the wonderful Artists and Food vendors on weekends. A wealth of restaurants, form ethnic foods to steak houses to cutting edge "foodie" destinations.

Nice space dedicated to fountains an large sculptures on The Mall, across from The National Gallery of Art. The metal tree, 'Graft' by Roxy Paine is easy to spot. Not one of the largest or more impressive Chinatowns in North America, but the food is excellent and it's a good place to buy Chinese tea for much less than you'd spend in specialty shops.
