When in Rome (or in this case Singapore).....Stop in at the Long Bar (located at the Raffles Hotel) for a Singapore Sling!
The drink was overpriced, but the straw fans and colonial architecture of this stunning (inspired by the plantations of 1920s Malaysia) was pretty cool and well worth the adventure.Recommended for:

So the last time I came here, the waitress assumed my 70+ year old father was my boyfriend? ...umm, yuck.
I'm not a really a fan of the sugary Singapore Sling, but Long Bar is where they were invented and so that might warrant a visit in itself.
The bar is gorgeous, just like the historic Raffles Hotel where it's located, the peanut shells strewn all over the floor make for a casual and fun atmosphere, and on the night we visited, the cover band was more than entertaining.
Kind of a chill spot to hang out with the parents and listen to some music.

Never mind that you'll pay 2x times the price of a las vegas drink for a singapore sling. Remember this is where it was made. Otherwise the place looks like something out of Robinson Crusoe or Swiss Family Robinson with the fans and plantation like vibe accented with endless peanuts. I like peanuts!

I don't get the attraction of this place. It may be the home of the Singapore Sling but there are much better places in the city to get one. If you want to indulge in the romanticism of the hotel, check out the Tiffin Room. If you want to sit at a near empty bar chatting with Cheryl from Iowa, go home.

This has got to be the saddest joke in all of cocktaildom. If there ever was a time that the Singapore Sling was worthy of its legend, that time is long gone. What's left are a few sad folks in aloha shirts, having just lost $25 for a pre-mixed sickly sweet shadow of a former cocktail. Two stars because while the place has been commercialized and touristified to death, this is still really where it came from. I knew all of this going into it, but it was still worth it to me in the end. So save your cash, walk in and gawk, but do not drink. If you actually want a Singapore Sling, Heaven's Dog in San Francisco makes one that gives you a far better idea of what made the drink great in the first place...and if you're looking for better cocktails in Singapore itself, you're much better off going to the Tippling Club.
