The Longemont loses points in my eyes for not being in walking distance of any of Shanghai's major attractions. Once inside, however, the hotel is very pleasant and entirely welcoming. The lobby is huge with high ceilings and tasteful flower arrangements. A nice coffee shop/bakery offers guests free Wi-Fi and is a great place to sit on your laptop or read a book. The guest rooms are also elegantly appointed with crisp linens, large windows that flood the room with light and sizeable bathtubs, perfect for soaking. Small cards on the beds detail the pillow service, which allows guests to select the type of pillow they’d like each night (down, memory foam, etc.). The gym area and lap pool with overhead skylights provide an ideal setting for squeezing in a workout between business meetings or sightseeing.

The hotel, including the rooms, service and restaurants, are all good and what you would expect from a hotel of this standart. I am not very keen on the address, right on Yan'an Road by Jiangsu Road, one of the worst places in the whole city, traffic-wise, in morning- and evening rush hour. On the positive side it is right in the middle of Shanghai, so if you're here on business this spot provides access to most parts of the city.

Located on the western edge of the Former French Concession, The Longmont is a nice option for business travelers who don't like staying right downtown. But if you're looking to wander around the streets of Shanghai as a tourist this is probably not your best option as it is quite far from Shanghai's tourist staples. The hotel in itself is nice enough, nothing mid blowing but good sized rooms with comfortable beds and clean bathrooms. The suites are far nicer than the standard rooms and the one I was in over looked all of the city from the bathroom, a very cool view while getting ready in the morning. The stand out point of the hotel is the swimming pool, it's an indoor infinity pool on the 40th(-ish) floor looking to the west and on a clear day you can see forever. A good option for people interested in staying a bit out of the rush of downtown but still close enough to hop in a cab and get everywhere within 20minutes (if there is no traffic).

At the north west corner of the French Concession sits the Longemont hotel. Conveniently located on Yan’an Rd, a main thoroughfare, means that you are under 10 minutes (by taxi) to the majority of Shanghai’s attractions. Primarily a business hotel, the property has plenty of amenities (such as conference rooms and dividable ballrooms) to cater to the needs of their guests. The lobby is spacious and open, with the restaurants on the 2nd and 3rd floor overlooking the action. The rooms are clean, spacious and thoughtful. The suite boats one of the coolest showers we’ve seen, a glass cylinder overlooking the French Concession’s tree lined streets- pretty cool. A great hotel if you are in the area for business, but if you're looking to be within walking distance to most of Shanghai, maybe not your best bet. If walking isn't your thing and you have no problem taking cabs, this is an excellent hotel for you.
