Description

Looking for a vacation spot in which to relax from the stresses of life, lounging on the beach or sipping margaritas at a swim-up pool bar? Or, do you want an adventure, complete with bumpy rides on converted school buses, historic ruins and underwater exploration? Compared to just about anywhere in the world, the Yucatan Peninsula is your place for both. Cancún was built to offer nothing but the ... read more
former; much of the rest of the peninsula will provide the latter. In many ways, Cancún is a blessing. The Mexican government started building a dedicated 'Hotel Zone' in 1970, when the island of Cancún had just three residents. Every year, four million vacationers enjoy the hotels, restaurants and malls while smaller resort areas and villages remain relatively calm in comparison. Visitors can take their pick. Stay in Cancún for hundreds of dining options, shopping, all-inclusive resorts and nightlife. Head to Tulúm for Mayan ruins on the beach, yoga and smoothies, or Playa del Carmen for a smaller scale resort town. But perhaps the most spectacular sight on the Yucatan Peninsula is ancient sacred Mayan city, Chichen Itza, home to 18 preserved structures.
