This is a great property. I'm usually a bit skeptical of "trendy" boutique properties as the style usually comes at the expense of good service. This property does a good job of playing it cool while still providing good service.
The rooms are small but reasonable by NY standards. The complementary mini-bar is a great amenity.
The location could not be better for SOHO.

I love hotels that have a comfortable feel, lighting, lobby culture, excellent food and a wine list. I love the Mercer because the lobby is amazing. Juice is by Organic Avenue and the food by Jean-Georges Vongerichten is great.

We had a fantastic dinner at the Mercer hotel. Great rosé wine from Provence, with crispy soft shell crab, truffle pizza and cheery tomato fusilli! So yummy. We ate at the bar (very comfortable) and the barman/ waiter was helpful and nice. Really loved the decor (very underground yet sophisticated NYC).

The mercer hotel is a golden location right on mercer and Prince. It is the definition of NYC. Shops, food, people, the clothes. When you come in stay at the mercer and really learn this area of NYC. You won't need to travel anywhere else in the city to feel as though you lived.

The Mercer is a solid hotel, mostly because of it's nice downstairs common area (complete with serviceable bar), good location (Soho, close enough to everything you want), and next door club. The club next door is fine, small, and accessible only through a freight elevator. The hotel itself was, at least a few years ago, considered pretty trendy, but isn't so as much anymore. Still, it's one of the better options in NYC, provided you have the funds.
