I didn't have the pleasure of staying here, but I've been inside the hotel room and been a patron of hotel bars and events they hosted. It's a beautiful, modern, sleek, chic hotel. Love the simplicity, clean edge design, paired with comfort and luxury, making guests and visitors feel like celebs and important people.

I love their pools, beautiful views of the harbor, especially around sunset. The Lobby Bar is so cool, it's a bookcase during the day, and in the evening the bookcase rotates to a hidden bar lounge. Genius!

The Modern Honolulu is an amazing hotel! The hospitality here is top notch. Everything from the pool side service to the concierge letting us borrow a gps and iPad during out stay was great! I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone!

I haven't actualled STAYED at the hotel, but worked a wedding here. The hotel lobby is definitely very modern looking, clean and the front desk was very helpful in me locating the event room I'd be working in (photographer). I believe it was on the 4th floor. The event room was very nice, spacious, modern decor and also had a fairly large balcony/patio area that overlooked the ocean and the pool. All the guests seemed to be really enjoying their time as cocktails and appetizers were being served by the staffed. Also just down some stairs is the area for wedding ceremonies. It's neat how they have it looking like a beach with a sand floor and huge shallow pool.

If you're wanting to check out this hotel as a venue for a wedding, I'd definitely recommend it! Can't comment on the rooms as I haven't seen them, but if they're anything like the rest of what I saw, I'm sure it is great.

Chic, trendy, and modern is the Modern in Honolulu. The pool side bar is a good choice for sunset watching while the pool itself is great for people watching during the day.

I don't pretend to be hip any more, so all these plain white hotels with velvet ropes in front of the entrance and parties in the lobby generally aren't for me. However, after a 17-hour journey from Europe I was pleased to find something clean, relatively pleasing on the eye, within 20 minutes cab ride of the airport and ready for an early check-in. I booked an Ocean View King and was given a lovely, spacious room... but with a view of a rooftop parking lot. When I challenged the manager on this, even she struggled to keep a straight face, and moved me across the corridor to the same grade of room with a view of the rather lovely pool area and marina beyond. Service was friendly and efficient throughout - right down to retrieving and returning a device charger which I foolishly left behind. One minor criticism is all the lobby staff have been programmed to do the whole "welcome back, sir" thing, even when you've just stepped out into the street for a couple of minutes; I know some people like the recognition, I just find it a bit excruciating. I'd certainly stay again, given how it compares for price, location and environment vs. the rather tacky resort-style properties elsewhere in the vicinity. If you have to stay in Waikiki - and personally it's not my cup of tea - this would be my preferred option.

This is probably the hippest hotel in Waikiki—and the entire state (which isn’t saying much in Hawaii, however). As a 40-something woman, I did feel vaguely intimidated by the youthful ‘tude at the front desk and the MTV-style girls hosting poolside, but in truth the crowd is a mellow mix of the trendies and more seasoned stylish.

I especially love the minimalist, white-walled feel of the place, the shallow saltwater swimming pool surrounded by sand, the broken-surfboard décor behind the front desk, the “vintage Hawaii beach house” bookshelf in the lobby. Rooms are crisp, clean and white to match the vibe. Morimoto Waikiki, the hotel’s signature restaurant, is the creation of a renowned Iron Chef, with an interior perfectly soothing in lime green and white.

Although not on the beach, the property fronts a boat harbor only a few minutes’ walk from a shallow lagoon and the beachfront.

At the top of the boutique hotel game in Waikiki, this Ian Schrager-designed hotel feels much more expensive than it is (it's now managed by the awesome island-based Aqua chain of hotels and resorts, which are eco-friendly). Don't miss having a drink in the lobby bar, hidden behind a revolving bookcase, James Bond-style. The pool deck adjoins Iron Chef Morimoto's restaurant, and the hotel's nightclub is one of the trendiest dance floors in Waikiki or Honolulu. The only big drawback is that the hotel faces the yacht harbor, so you'll have to walk or catch the bus to Waikiki Beach.

Hip and swanky hotel that you'd expect to find in Vegas or Miami. While it's not beachfront, you'll love hanging out at the sexy pool area. The Lobby Bar is fabulous and you'll find all the beautiful locals hanging out there on any given night. Enjoy dinner at Morimoto's and grab a drink at Lobby Bar after. Addition nightclub downstairs is a hotspot, but the space itself gets cramped and the crowd is mixed.

Hotel rates are very reasonable, so if you're looking to stay outside of the touristy area of Waikiki and want a more upscale adults-only scene, this is where it's at.

Truly remarkable design here. Fresh and clean with white being the primary choice. But lots of texture, pops of color and contrasting darker woods are used, so it’s very relaxing and not sterile, with a simple, subdued and softly-lit lobby. Everything was custom-designed in the large partial-ocean view room, with a crisp bed of linens and beautiful finishes throughout. The bathroom was spacious with a big, glass-enclosed shower. There was a 46” flatscreen, complimentary internet access with iPods and iPads available on request. A large lanai overlooked the yacht harbor and the magnificent two-pool area below (one saltwater). There’s an excellent fitness center and spa plus two bar/lounges, with one outside for amazing sunsets. They also house the Addiction Nightclub featuring top DJs and dancing as well as Iron Chef Morimoto’s restaurant, with its amazing décor and excellent food, including a full sushi bar. Just being there made me feel really good.

I attended The Modern's movie night this week for the first time and enjoyed the cozy seating on the sand on the 2/F upper deck pool area. In spite of a few windy periods during the evening, the location was comfortable and the movie screen didn't flap around! It's a cool view of the Ilikai Hotel and other high rise buildings that surround this pool area. The staff at the pool side bar was friendly; the free popcorn was a nice touch. I sort of wish there were more lounge chairs available, but the area is a bit small to begin with. Roaming around the area, the hotel is very classy and trendy. I haven't taken a picture of a bathroom before, but this place warranted a shot!
-- Parking is presumably pricy if you choose to go onsite, so I just went to the beach area in the marina where free parking is available.

Although I have not stayed and seen the rooms yet. But the settings here is very nice. Hip, very chic! Alfresco dining near the pool, with a full bar. A good size screen tv for the sports fan.

The food is great, maybe a bit pricey but it was really good and the portions are not bad either.

I think, this could be another "marked" favorite place for me to come back to.

There are a few adjectives that people consistently use to describe this hotel. As much as I hate to use the word "hip" because I feel like an old lady trying to describe something too cool for her, but that's what I'd use to describe this place. Hotels in Hawaii are usually decorated in tacky floral print and rattan, but not this place! It almost reminded me of the Ace Hotel with its minimal design. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, although the dividing wall between the bedroom and bathroom are only shutters, so if you're staying with friends and don't want them to hear your bathroom noises, expect to turn on the TV.

The Modern has two pools, one with sand and one without. There are a ton of lounge chairs and the employees are quick to offer you a cool towel or some juice. The pool is open 24 hours a day, so my friends and I were able to have a fun night playing games in the pool at midnight. If that's not for you, check out the club downstairs.

The only gripe I had with this hotel was its distance from Waikiki. There weren't that many things in immediate walking distance, but a cab to the touristy area will only cost less than $10.

Small place but the vibes were on point. Last Friday DJ Rock City from Chicago turned the place out. They sure do love '90's hip hop!

Nice hotel. Poor sevice for the expensive
Price. No hot water for shower in morning. Received better service at other hotels stayed at Kahala, Royal Hawaiian, or Moana Surfrider.
