This is the view from our room - an empty private beach in Honolulu! Hidden gem filled mostly with Japanese tourists. Panoramic view rooms without breaking the wallet. A secret I should keep ;-)Recommended for:

Sitting on the quiet end of Waikiki and right on the sand, the boutique Kaimana has a distinctive Island ambiance. The hotel doesn’t have a pool, but the beach offers good swimming and snorkeling, plus a lifeguard. The Kaimana’s relaxed lobby leads to one of Honolulu’s favorite restaurants, Hau Tree Lanai—I think dinner’s overpriced and underwhelming, but would definitely recommend breakfast. Unfortunately, the guest rooms are generally small and boringly decorated, and they surround a very outdated open-air atrium. If you can afford an oceanfront room, however (and especially an oceanfront corner room), the views are absolutely unbelievable. One caveat about The Kaimana is its distance from central Waikiki, which is at least a 10-minute walk away. The beach-park pathway is very pleasant by day but sketchy at night. Use a taxi after dark to go back and forth. I give it 4 stars because I love the location and Island-style boutique atmosphere.Recommended for:

I just love this location and have had about a dozen stays here during 4 years. I have had mostly great experiences, but will never make a reservation by Internet again. The Internet reservation had me thinking I reserved a totally different room than what I actually got. I highly suggest calling toll free before the office closes, and making reservations directly with the human who answers.
The beach is one of Hawaiis best. The park across the street offers peace, exercise and recreation. Beware of the $23 parking fee!!!

This beach hotel opposite Kapiolani Park beckons you with an airy, spacious lobby that carries through to the shoreline. They are known for their wonderful beachside restaurant, the Hau Tree Lanai as well as the Miyako Japanese restaurant. And their Sunset Lanai Lounge is a great place to end the day. The moderate, lower floor room was small but comfortable with a great queen size bed and a lanai, but the view of Kapiolani Park and the parking lot was very underwhelming. There was a flatscreen, complimentary WiFi and internet. No pool, but you’re right on the beach. It’s located closer to Diamond Head with the zoo and Waikiki Aquarium nearby, but the action in Waikiki is about a 15 minute walk away without a car. Something to consider if you’re making that journey at later hours in the night. It’s not well-lit, walking across from the park.
