The Old City of Istanbul is essentially a triangle bounded by water on two sides and the Theodosian Walls on the third. Inside you'll find most of the major landmarks: palaces, mosques, churches and other landmarks. The Old City is more of a tourist destination while the residential and commercial districts of Istanbul can be found north of the Historic Peninsula and across the Bosphorus.Recommended for:

In a city like Istanbul, old really means old! There are crumbling ruins everywhere you turn, and modern life is built on layers and layers of history. Amazing place!Recommended for:

The Old City from the top of the Galata Tower. Magical, mythical, one-of-a-kind Istanbul. Those adjectives are used to described a lot of cities (too many cities, in my opinion) but they undeniably fit this city like a well-worn glove.
