I would never go here again. I have been here a couple of times before, and I kept telling myself that I would give it another chance. Saturday, Feb 15th, we went in there about 7:00 and still the same crummy service. I feel like I need to be put on a conveyor belt and just go down the line and out the back door. Look at a board for what I want to eat, (prices have skyrocketed). Then some guy asked me what I wanted to drink, and I asked him to bring me two waters to start with; my husband would tell him what he wanted when he got back from the men's room. Two waters were thrown on the table, because the tables and chairs are so close to each other that he couldn't reach us. The waiter took our order, and he never asked us again if we wanted something else to drink; he was in such a hurry that he was gone before we could get a breath to ask him for anything else, plus it was so noisy in there, he wouldn't have probably heard us anyway.Toast was supposed to be with my eggs and hash browns, and I didn't get it. The plates were pretty much thrown at us as again; they can't get to us for the chairs being too close to each other. About 4 tables and the chairs need to be removed. As fast as they push you through, not a lot of money would be lost if you did this. I was bumping into the people behind me, and I am not overweight... Ridiculous. Then the bill was thrown at us; same reason...stretching over others to get to us. We never got our waters refilled; the food came within 3 minutes which tells me that it's already prepared and not prepared when ordered. Hash browns were cold, my husband's potatoes were cold; they tasted like instant mash potatoes. He wanted a cup of coffee, but because the waiters couldn't get to us, we never got to ask them, nor did they take the time to ask us if we wanted anything else, like dessert. I feel like this place is only a tourist trap, because of the fact that it has never been without a customer, it's never been closed, and people just want to be a part of that.We paid $30.00 and I only had hash browns and 2 eggs. We could not relax and let our food settle a few minutes, as we felt rushed. I don't think we were there a total of 15-20 minutes. We ended up having to walk to Starbuck's so that we could sit and relax with some coffee and be able to hear ourselves.
All in all, Original Pantry, Really, guys??? I think your time is up.

My first visit to the Original Pantry Cafe.
There are 2 lines, 1 for table seating & the other for counter seating.
There was a line about 20 feet long for the table seating. The wait didn't seem too long, though.
Inside, it was rather stuffy & cramped. I ended up ordering the bacon & cheese omelet w/hash browns & toast, the potato/vegetable/coleslaw combo & a $0.50 coffee. The portions were pretty good. The coleslaw was excellent, crispy & refreshing. The omelette was a good size with what I think is Velveeta cheese. The vegetables were corn niblets. I was stuffed. Overall, the food was very filling but with prices that are a little higher because of it.
I'm glad I had the chance to visit another one of LA's historic eateries. The food was good & the prices were fair. I'll come & check the Original Pantry Cafe whenever I'm in the area again.

Great meal after an awesome Beatles play at Ahmansen. This is a great place to come due to the facts that it is not only open 24/7, but they have several options for breakfast that will fill your needs. Lets get started:
FOOD: I usually go with either their 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, potatoes & coffee or
5. bisquits w/saus gravy, potatoes & coffee. Both are under 7 dollars with a great portion size. You will leave full and appreciate your meal.
SERVICE: Service was great. Jose was able to help us with all our needs and made sure that we were well taken care of.
PARKING: Parking is on the street. Sometimes spots are scarce, but you should find a good spot whether or not its close or walking distance so you can walk off the food.
OVERALL: This is a true LA landmark. Even if you are not going to have breakfast, you have to come by just for something as small as a coffee or a lite snack just to experiences being in this place. The breakfast you will not regret so give it a try, and bring cash as this is a cash only establishment.

This is one of my favorite places to get a quick breakfast in LA. There is always a line out the door for this old fashion diner and the food is good, I like the potatoes the best. Service is efficient, so they will have you in and out in no time!

I really need to tell myself to stop coming here and I need to listen. If you haven't heard of Pantry, then you haven't been to enough Lakers games. If it's all about the late late night eats here. On this side of town, if you are not going to IHOP or Denny's, it's going to be Pantry. All that food is similar, it's just that Pantry's has a homegrown spin to it but it comes at a price here, a high one. Atleast though, you get a ton of food. It's also gonna have to be CASH ONLY, so tell your card bearing friends to pray that the ATM is functional.
-=-Sourdough Bread-=- Everyone gets it as long as you buy food. It's great, grilled, and even greater with butter. The toastier the better, the more butter the BETTER.
-=-Country Fried Steak-=- My Favorite here. This was barely breaded, but the chicken still had a fried taste to it. They put something in it, I'm sure. Must be crack.
-=-Short Rib-=- Second Favorite here, and most popular menu item. The short rib here is soul food style, where they drape the whole thing in gravy. It's easy to eat since the meat falls off the bone. Halfway through, you'd probably get sick of it, so prepare to split your meals.
-=-Hash Brown-=- Bleh, nothing special, but I prefer it over the Fried Potatoes.
-=-Fried Potatoes-=- For some reason, I get the fried potatoes here since this place it known for it more than the other starches. It's pretty dang starchy. I get sick of it real real real quick. Ask for french fries instead.
Next time I will get the Pantry Burger. My drunk neighbor bar mate girls got it and it didn't look half bad. Similar to a Frisco with the sourdough bread and all. There was also good size to it, and it's like 5 or 6 bucks cheaper than the dishes I got.

The sidewalk outside the entrance to the Pantry Cafe is often lined with people waiting to enter. To shorten waiting time, waiters sometimes come outside to take orders. Only cash is accepted but there is an ATM. There is almost free, validated parking in the parking lot across the street.
The Pantry Cafe serves traditional American cuisine in a casual atmosphere that is an integral part of Los Angeles's culture. It has been and continues to be a gathering place for interesting and significant people. Former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan now owns it.

Get the Ham Steak and Eggs and the home fries with the grilled sourdough toast. It's a very satisfying meal especially late at night. Granted this is more of a "college" scene and it can get a bit sketchy late at night, but still good late night breakfast!
