The Palmer House Hilton

17 East Monroe Street, Box 75845, Chicago, IL 60603
4.5
29 reviews

Aside from housing the rich and famous during the 1893 World's Fair, the Palmer House also shares another piece of history with the exhibition. It was here that a pastry chef was charged with creating a new confection to wow fair-goers, resulting in the birth of the brownie. The hotel still serves their chocolate creation at their in-house Lockwood Restaurant.

Located in the Majestic Building, this hotel is beautiful from the inside out. Framed playbills and Broadway scenes line the lobby and breakfast area walls to celebrate the hotel's shared habitation with Chicago's Bank of America Theatre. From the valet parking workers to the sales representatives, everyone at the hotel was incredibly welcoming and made sure to greet me with ...

This place has such charm! From the sweet decor of the rooms to the actual key you use to open your door. Great location with just a few minute walk to millennium park and buckingham fountain. Found this gem on Hotwire hot deal. Valet parking was $54 overnight. Other parking garages are $40 nearby but don't offer valet with unlimited ...

The new Art Deco-influenced Hotel Allegro was originally the Bismark, built in 1926, and is a beautiful space. It's located right in the Loop and has easy access to public transportation and downtown theaters. The rooms are small, but they’re also charming, plush and good use is made of the space. The décor is a mix of the hotel’s Art ...

The last time I was here, I saw Derrick Rose (Bulls) stroll through the lobby and not a soul stopped to ask for a picture (though I'm sure we all wanted to) because it's just not that kind of place. With floor to ceiling windows, free wi-fi, and excellent cocktail lounge and some of the best views in the city- ...

This is a good Convention hotel choice when I'm in Chicago. It's just a short a walk to Michigan Avenue, good restaurants, the "L", and almost anywhere else, except the Convention Center (McCormick Place) itself. For that a longish bus ride to South Side Siberia is required. In many ways, this is a classic Courtyard by Marriott property and remains ...

Very nice, recently remodeled Doubletree with a good downtown location. It's not right on top of the river and other other downtown hotels, but it's still within a short walk of the Mag Mile and plenty of other things.

The James serves up modern luxury with all the amenities. Rooms are spacious (by downtown hotel standards), with city views and complimentary WiFi. The hotel is also home to David Burke's Primehouse, named the city's best steakhouse by Chicago Magazine. For smaller bites, head to the newly opened Burke's Bacon Bar, which serves up pork-centric sandwiches. For late night sips, ...

The hotel is slightly older but well-maintained. The views are amazing and depending on the floor that you're on you can see an up close skyline of Chicago. I love that you walk out of the door and you're in the center of the city. And the junior size Olympic swimming pool is to die for!

The location is excellent. Water taxi nearby, magnificent mile just a few steps away. Keefer's restaurant just a few minutes away. Nothing to complain about the hotel - just a normal business hotel. Wifi availability was not good around the hotel conference areas. The conference areas were a maze with some places quite far apart.

It was a treat to show up at 5pm while the complimentary wine, beer, and cocktails were being served. They also had some great flatbreads. The service is the best attribute of the Palomar though. Hotel Sax is all about hip, swank luxury. It's at the base of Marina City (those corn cob towers dotting the city skyline), and is located literally steps (as in maybe 30) from the House of Blues. There's complimentary wi-fi internet and funky decorating (as evidenced by the gold-toned silhouette of a chandelier on the wallpaper, in lieu of an ...

Directly linked to the North Bridge shopping center (with 50 stores, a Nordstrom, and 20 restaurants), you don't even need to step outside to shop Michigan Avenue, which is a serious perk during the harsh Chicago winters. Rooms are nicely sized, decorated in a neutral palette of whites and tans. The hotel offers free WiFi, a rarity for upscale lodging, ...

The Allerton may be a sleekly modern boutique hotel now, decorated in rich greys, navy and silver, but underneath the bold graphic prints and contemporary design is a ton of history.
