My friend and I were road tripping across America and our second to last night was in Chicago. We booked The Palmer House as we wanted a nice place because we were tired of staying in random hotels along the way. We also needed a place that was pet friendly and to our surprise this gorgeous hotel was! The puppy traveling with us even received a golden doggy tag to wear on his collar. Many hotel guests were surprised that The Palmer House was pet friendly too and even one guest approached us to say he "didn't know it was pet friendly" and he "couldn't wait to bring his golden retriever here" on his next trip to Chicago.

Beyond just the fact that our doggy companion could stay with us, we throughly enjoyed this hotel. The hotel staff was very friendly and helped us pick out a restaurant for some deep dish pizza. The room was lovely and after a long day (8 hours) of driving from South Dakota we were thrilled to slip into our comfy queen beds. The decor in the room was delightful and the downstairs lobby and bar area were stunning! We would have loved to have a drink downstairs before 'hitting the hay' but we were exhausted as we had already been driving for 10 days so we opted out.

On our next planned trip to Chicago we are definitely planning on staying at The Palmer House, having our long anticipated drinks and spend a little more time marveling the beauty of this hotel!

We really enjoyed this hotel. The lobby has a famous frescoed ceiling. It also has well decorated rooms and excellent style. The hotel bar is a great place to have a drink, it also has very delicious drinks and food. I would recommend staying here.

Aside from housing the rich and famous during the 1893 World's Fair, the Palmer House also shares another piece of history with the exhibition. It was here that a pastry chef was charged with creating a new confection to wow fair-goers, resulting in the birth of the brownie. The hotel still serves their chocolate creation at their in-house Lockwood Restaurant.

Spent a few days in this luxury hotel since we attended a major event held here. What else can I say but the rooms are spacious with enough luxury, pricey of course but we were given a slight discount as delegates. Right at the centre of the city with all the shops around. Very accessible and ideal place to stay.

I've never stayed here, but stopping by to see the beautiful lobby is worth it. It's also the home of the first brownie. They have afternoon tea which I've been meaning to try. The hotel itself is pretty historical.

Really beautiful hotel, and a great location. I heard they invented the brownie here! The rooms are small but I consider that part of the charm - this is an old hotel! I highly recommend staying here.

rooms are dated but that is what you expect with a hotel from the 1800's. Halls are cool to browse and see photos of stars playing the Empire in the 50's - 70's and what years they were there. Easy walk to parks, navy pier, mueseums, etc. Our room was very small but apparently they vary greatly.

We like the location of this hotel if we are going to shows. In the heart of the Chicago Loop area, it is close to theaters, shops, restaurants and the "L" train.

The bell hop took more than 20 minutes to bring up our luggage. However the concierge was very helpful. All of the staff were very friendly.

Our room was beautiful, definitely request a room with a view. Bathroom was a but small, but the luxury of the living area made up for it

Gorgeous hotel! Did you know this is where the brownie was invented? Bertha Palmer asked the hotel chefs to create a sweet treat for the women's Pavilion at the world's Columbian exposition of 1893.

When my (half)sister found out about my little field trip she immediately suggested I stay in the Palmer House if I were to come to Chicago. She specifically referred to this lobby, and mentioned that she once had stayed here, even though she lives in the city, when she was writing her PhD thesis. "you should write dad a love letter from there", she suggested.

I immediately booked a couple of nights at The Palmer. Those didn't come cheap, I must say, but, as I was trying to scrabble something late last night, I could not help but admire the Empire Room, which is the lobby's name. I was not expecting this, even though I knew that this city was something special, a big capital since the early XXth century.

This hotel, they say, was the largest in the world when it was built (in the golden twenties), and it is almost a miracle that it hasn't been demolished and supplanted by a newer, more modern version of the US wealth and might. Long gone are his golden years, when people in hats and suits and covered in animal skins and feathers would fill its massive common spaces and shop in its exclusive boutiques. Now it's mostly tourist with caps and Bermudas and annoying cameras with flashes, much like myself, all the glamor and class of yonder are gone for good.

But once they all go to bed, like last night, the fabulously decorated lobby regains some of its lost allure, and glows once again like the symbol of American power that was intended to be. And it's not the power that we're used to see, for it has now devolved into something different. Up until the second half of the XXth century, the US was not interested in policing the world or even replacing the decaying colonial empires of the previous century. It was too absorved, still a bit naive, perhaps, very much immersed in itself.

This is one of my favorite hotels I've ever stayed at. It's simply stunningly gorgeous. So much detail in all of the decor and what a cool history. The location is great too and makes it easy to explore the city. The concierge service was top notch and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I highly recommend this hotel.

Great Hilton, great hotel. One of my favorite Hilton's, with a great interior. Good location if you want to be in the Loop, or if you are attending a big convention and need a place on the shuttle bus route.

A lot of great memories here. A great old classic hotel that pioneered the use of elevators and Edison's light bulb. But it's not the same since Trader Vic's left. The concierges are top shelf.
