I have stayed at all of the Peninsulas and this is definitely the least impressive in the chain. That said, the property is still decent.
Best things about the property are:
- perfect location in Makati within easy walking distance of the major shopping areas
- attractive lobby area and relatively good service overall
- high quality in-house tour organizer (very friendly and on the ball)
- high quality food and beverage, including an excellent breakfast buffet
- very good value for money
During our stay, we found two significant problems with the property -- the quality of the front desk staff and sub-standard rooms.
We interacted with a couple of different individuals at the front desk and found that the team consistently made errors and seemed confused / overwhelmed by their jobs.
Problems we encountered were:
- lack of coordination with the tour desk (clueless about the details of arrangements that they had made with their own internal tour operator)
- mistakes with the billing (definitely check your bill)
- mistakes with reservations for car transport (wrong time)
- forgot that they had confirmed a late check out (twice)
The second issue / concern with this property is that the room quality is below standard for the Peninsula. Expect smaller rooms with lower quality / outdated furnishings and bathrooms. They aren't bad but they aren't exceptional.
Double check any arrangements made with the front desk staff and re-set expectations about room quality vs. other Pens. This property is far superior to the Mandarin Oriental; however, if I were to visit Manila again, i would be tempted to check out the Shangri-La across the street.

Love Staying at the Peninusla. The service was so friendly and great! Since it was our first time staying there they took the time to describe what to do and see at the hotel. The pool was beautiful! and the gym was clean and filled with new machines. Our room was very comfortable complete with a business desk with a fax and everything. The Breakfast buffet that came with our meal there was also very tasty! I well definitely stay here again!

Somehow I was expecting more. Somehow I was expecting a softer treatment. Somehow I walked away saying “Was that the Peninsula experience?
The Peninsula comes with a big reputation that sadly did not live up to it in my eyes. Yes, front desk and check in was efficient. Yes, the ambiance of the hotel did take my breath away. But no to the food, the security guards with stoic looks making you feel like you’ve stolen a towel, and the lack of greetings from many of the staff.
I walked away feeling that the lobby staff had that “I work for the Peninsula and don’t need to smile” attitude, which is so different than the competition across the street.
I’ll give it another try, but improvements need to be made.

First time back in the Philippines for almost 30 years.. and I wanted to stay in this hotel...highly recommended by my friends here in US and in the Philippines. The hotel is really nice and very elegant. The staff who works there are really hospitable..they do treat you with respect. The rooms are nice and clean. I stayed for a total of 12 days. The breakfast buffet was complimentary...good breakfast and good looking restaurant staffs were a plus.

This too is sort of a dated hotel. It is but a block away from shangrila hotel and the rest of makati. It is a place where President Bush last visited. I personally like it because of the candid camera shots of me drunkenly dancing in the water fountain. I was not supposed to be dancing in the water fountain.. drunkenly or otherwise. I would not suggest doing it.. though it would be a story to tell. Especially with the more formal (stuff) ambiance/air/environment/etc that the decor and vibe of the hotel gives off. Of course I would not fault them for that since that is what I think they are known for.. Old money of sorts. I dont think I'd stay there again, but then again i'm a little too crazy for that place.
