This is a great zoo to visit, even without kids. Great setting, well maintained grounds, the animals look happy and healthy. Our favorite part was getting up-close and personal with the giraffes and being able to feed them (you have to pay a little extra for this). There is a nice petting zoo for the little kids. If you are from another city/state and have a membership at the local zoo there, make sure you bring your membership card and check if they would give you a discount (we got 50% off).

They have a decent collection of animals as well as facilities for younger children to occupy themselves. There is a lake in the middle that has various small water activities that one can pursue. For the most part, the demonstration exhibits are acceptable, but some of the big cats are in smaller enclosures than they should be.

I love the Phoenix Zoo and I go several times a year. Its a pretty big zoo with lots of animals, special exhibits and events. You definitely want to have lunch, either bring your own or buy it at one of the restaurants, and have a picnic by the water and monkey island.

The zoo is pretty fun and not so big that you'll get tired out and overwhelmed easily. One tip: When visiting, aim for early spring or fall. Summers can be so hot that many of the animals will just hide in their enclosures and you could miss a lot.

I really enjoy the Phoenix zoo. I am a fan of all zoos and think this one tops the list. It is hilly in parts, very pretty. Go early when they feed the animals (if in the summer) that is when the animals are most active. Best is in the winter or spring. The Monkey exhibit where you get to walk inside the cage is really fascinating. It is easy to spend 6 hours there.

The Phoenix Zoo is one of the younger zoos in the country. Not only is it a successful zoo, but it is a privately owned, nonprofit zoo. That means that it operates strictly without any government funding. The Phoenix Zoo is totally supported by donors and private organizations.
