This review is specifically for Todd English at the Plaza Food Hall.
I went with some folks for a birthday dinner here, and while we enjoyed the appetizers (especially the risotto tater tots!) and dessert (lavender creme brulee, mmm...) quite a bit, the main entrees left us unimpressed. I ordered, if memory serves, a half order of a crab pasta dish that was supposed to come with capers. Apparently, the kitchen had run out of capers and substituted peas. Blech. Not only do I not care for mushy cooked peas, peas are no substitute for capers - the texture and taste are totally different. Most other people at the table had also ordered pasta dishes and didn't feel that they were anything special. I felt like the value for the money was pretty low. It was also (here comes my pet peeve) quite noisy - if you want to be able to talk, definitely go elsewhere. Kinda sad I didn't try out the other places in the food hall instead.

Expensive, but an awesome market-style dining experience at The Plaza. Craving raw bar? Dim sum? Lobster rolls? Rotisserie chicken? Charcuterie and formaggi? Stellar sangria? Fresh cheesecake? You can truly get it all at The Plaza Food Hall by Todd English.
I recommend having lunch at the Food Hall and enjoy walking around Central Park or enjoy shopping on 5th Avenue.

After a long day of work, a glass of wine and a nice dinner is just what you need. I recently had one of those long days and just wanted a no nonsense meal. My friend suggested the Plaza. The Plaza? I’m a cheapeater and the Plaza isn’t cheapeating. Fear not my friend, it is.
Down below in the shopping area is a well kept secret that I’m about to spill. Todd English is behind the Plaza Food Court. Different stations serving pizza, burgers, tapas, sushi and seafood. It doesn’t matter where you sit because you can order from any station at any seat.
My friend and I sit at the seafood station, order a glass of Cotes du Rhone and mull over the menu. I’m so hungry, I can eat everything. I decide on a caesar salad and tuna burger. As we’re relaxing and sipping our wine, it starts filling up. How come I’ve never heard of this?
My charming waitress set my salad and burger in front of me. Long stems of romaine lettuce, bruschetta toast and anchovy…a proper caesar salad. I immediately tear into it. Creamy, crunchy, tangy, salty all wrapped in one. Deliscious. My tuna burger is sitting on a brioche bun with a lettuce, tomato and a wasabi sauce. One bite, fresh, meaty with a hint of heat. I’m speechless.
The manager Christine, comes over to say hi and check to make sure that everything is OK. It’s more than OK, it’s perfect. Now you would think this meal was way over my budget. I’m happy to say that my salad and burger came within my $25 budget (not including wine).
I love this place so much, I had lunch there the next day. Ooops, the secret is out.
Happiness, $25 and under.

This Todd English restaurant was a complete surprise to us in the lower lobby level of the Plaza Hotel. After finding out the hard way that you don't just show up for tea at the Plaza we asked the hotel staff to suggest an alternative. We were shown to the Food Hall, which I had envisioned to be a "food court" and was not very excited! Wow-- it was anything but! It is worth a special trip--just pass right by the tea room! Sit at the counter and watch the busy kitchen turn out delectable dishes at the speed of light yet with extreme precision. I enjoyed their Parmesan Fries and Grilled Scallops on Arugula that was on special. If I did not have a dinner reservation 2 hours later at another Todd English establishment, I would have sampled much more.
