My friends and I stopped by The Raleigh Hotel briefly on a Saturday afternoon (June 2011). It was a hot day, but stepping into the lobby and then outdoor pool area at this hotel was like stepping into a calm, shaded oasis. We didn't stay too long, but The Raleigh could be a nice stop for those looking for a quiet respite from the Miami heat and crowds.

get it while its hot kids, because like all good things in Miami, the Raleigh we once knew will soon be taken over by polos-and-stripes promulgator Tommy Hilfiger. God only knows what will happen then.

The Raleigh is a historic Art Deco property located on Collins Avenue, and it is by far one of my favorite spots in Miami. They recently sweetened the deal by opening Restaurant Michael Schwartz, by acclaimed chef of the same name, which offers a menu similar to the chef's signature restaurant in the Design District.

First of all, this trip was booked in October as a last ditch effort to preserve my perfectly achieved summer tan. Not only was there no sun the entire weekend, but we were on tropical storm watch the entire trip. Regardless, the pancakes, pina coladas, and attentive service made the trip well worth it. The Raleigh is not your typical South Beach Hotels, and stands out for the fact that it does not host a bar or club on the premises. So for those of you looking for the convenience of an on the premises bar, so that you wake up on your own hotel's sun chair at 7 AM, this is not that place. The Raleigh is for those who appreciate lounging by the pool, good food, and a great location. Family friendly, although naturally quiet, the hotel was catering to a breathtaking wedding during our stay! We even shared shots by the pool with the bride and groom the following Sunday! We were informed that the bride's family had been coming to the Raleigh for years and the staff were equally excited to host such a special event. The perfect escape for a weekend getaway from the busy streets of NYC, I would highly recommend.

Go to the pool. It's beein called the most beautiful in the U.S. since 1947. Don't stay there, the rooms suck.

Lunch or brunch out back at the pool area is neat...and the pool is very iconic. Very mellow.
